Itching

Hello all. I've been done treatment just past nine months now and feel pretty good other than the stiffness in legs and hips.  But one thing that has never really went away and at times feels worse is the itching around the anus opening.  Sorry if some are offended by my question but this site and all it's members always make me feel comfortable to ask anything.  I read daily but don't add anything cause everything gets answered very well by the others.  Also is it bad that my stool is still very thin.  I know about the stool bulking up but for some reason me general Surgon thinks it's ok as long as I'm going. I'm thinking its permanent now.  thanking all in advance and wishing you all a merry christmas!!  God bless.    Pem

I still have the itching sometimes, which is annoying and also worrisome. The doctors do not seem concerned. Regarding the thin stools, when you add bulk to your diet, that will improve. Have you tried adding bulk to your diet?

I, too, am 9 months post treatment.  I had lot of hip and tigh stiffness as well but a weekly gentle yoga class has really helped to relieve that.  I do not have constant itching but have had it off and on which scared me because that's what I experienced prior to diagnosis.  I think some this may be due to the tissue healing but I would check with your doctor to be sure.  I started using topical vitamin E oil daily (applied to the anal openning) and that seems to have helped (my radiology oncologist also recommended Aquafor).  As far as stool, mine were very thin too but have gradually increased.  The radiation treatment causes stenosis which can be permenant (this is probably why your surgeon is not concerned).  I have heard it said here before that we have a new "normal" and I find that to be quite true.   Good Luck to you!
