Frustration!

Hi Guys ( and gals ;) ),

Well now I'm not sure when my hubby will have his MRI, chest CT or appointment with specialist. It seems that with the government shut down, most TDY military pay is limited. So, one thing is for sure, they will make him take a shuttle instead of his own car because they don't want to pay for his mileage. Also, there is a chance they will not pay for his room for the 6-7 nights he'll be there. Grrr! That will add up! Along with food and the fact that he'll be without transportation while he's there and will need to order food in possibly Not eactly the healthy food I would want him to have. I wish they had a military hospital closer or some sort of better system when your post hospital is so ill equipt to deal with cancer survivors.

I know I should be grateful for free healthcare but it still has a price. :/

    Military?

Is your husband in the military? I am Active Duty Air Force and am fortunate enough to have the military pay for EVERYTHING that's happened to me is past month. But I don't understand what the problem is with receiving his scans? is he TDY?

    Active Duty Military

Yes, he's military and the post where we are stationed does not have a hospital equipt to deal with his problems ( so we are led to believe). Anyway, it means he has to go about 6 hours away for his appointments. He was supposed to leave this morning and return the 10th, but that has been canceled. Everyone to whom he spoke told him no medical TDY right now, no matter how serious the condition. As of now, they are trying to get him into our local hospital for the scans but last time he had a scan here, the other hospital ( the one 6 hours away) claimed they could not use those. He'll keep his appointment with the specialist but we'll pay for the trip and possible hotel stay ourselves. The specialist appointment is still set for the 9th so I hope they will be able to get him in for chest CT and MRI quickly. If it doesn't work out, he may be forced to wait due to the fact that we just PCSed from Germany and ate thru a good deal of our savings to get settled ( lots of bad luck with cars and whatnot).

I was looking at him as he got ready this morning and he  looks exhausted. The added stress is not helping. :(

    The Plan

    Okay...

He was given his chest CT here this morning and we await results. The MRI machine was broken but now it's fixed so they are squeezing him in tomorrow morning. His primary care physician got real proactive, made calls and they are sending him down to see the chief urologist on the 9th as planned. He'll return the 10th. Whew. I'm so glad someone finally cared enough to fight for him. Everyone else just told him, "No TDY. Sorry." No one other than his primary was remotely helpful. Thank god for people like her.

I hope you all are having good days and I'm keeping so many of you in my prayers. Thanks for allowing me a place to vent. It does help.

    I understand!

I understand where you guys are coming from. I've been in your situation before. Military members seem to always experience the same misfortune! Anyway glad everything is finally working out! Will be thinking of you guys.

I'm angry enough for both  of

I'm angry enough for both  of us. The D.C. egos infuriate me. Our politicians should be ashamed, but they aren't. Your husband doesn't deserve this. . .

    Sorry. Keep your chins up!
