OT - Crazy Horse Memorial Volks March - June 1 & 2

Will anyone be doing the Crazy Horse Memorial Volks March (Black Hills, SD) this week end?

My/Our plans were to do it on Sat. morn and then fish and spend the night at Deadwood but weather seems that it makes more sense to go and maybe fish tomorrow afternoon and spend the night in Deadwood and do the Volks March on Sunday morn.

If you aren't doing it, you might want to think about for another year.  It is fairly strenous as it is 10k from the parking, climbing onto the arm , back to the parking lot.  The first part of the trail is through the woods below the carving, culminating on the arm of the carving.  The route down is straight forward down a work road.  (There are check points and aide stations along the trail.)

The first time I did it (1996), the face was not finished but it is today.  The only time the general public can get ON the carving is the anual Volks March - first weekend of June.  It is a bit sad though every year now it's so obvious the kill off of the Ponderosa pines by the pine beetlesl.  At least at the end - Paha Sapa will be healthy again.
