Just diagnosed Stage IV Small Bowel Cancer

Hi -

I'm a 49 year old vegetarian female just diagnosed 4 weeks ago with Stage IV Small Bowel Cancer.  I'm still pretty stunned as the last 6 months the doctors were treating me as having gastroparesis.  :-(

If anyone can share their experience and treatment that would be great.

The tumor was 2.2 cm causing obstruction.  The path report says there are also deposits in the omentum, but no lymph node involvement, which is why I guess the staging is a IV.  I see the oncololgist tomorrow and am scheduled for my PET Scan next week.  Needless to say I'm pretty nervous...please help!

Thanks!

    Small bowel cancer

Hi, I had small bowel cancer last year. Diagnosed as grade 1 stage 2-3 Follicular Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  Mine was causing an obstruction also.  It took a year to find out the problem but through determination I finally have an answer.  Would get terribly sick for a day or two then I would be fine until it happened again and again.  Food would get stuck then I would get sick.  The vomiting either hours or a few days would loosen it then I would be fine.  I had test after test done until I asked the gastroenterologist if I could swallow the pill that is a camera.  It found a blockage 7 hours into the test.  I had small bowel resection and the cancer was said to be gone.  Just found out last week that it is back so I will have a bone marrow biopsy in a few weeks. You don't meet many people that have this cancer so I was just reading different post and found yours.  I hope things are going well for you!  Frankie
