Port in; Chemo next Thursday

Yesterday was quite the day.  NPO after midnight, then at the hospital for port placement.  Arrived at 8AM.  Then, my surgeon was called away to a true emergency (man with bowel rupture who lost most of his colon).  Finally went to surgery at 3:30 PM.  Long day!!!

But worse for the surgeon, who was very, very sweet to add me on yesterday.  Lol, I brought her brownies on Tuesday (first appointment) to bribe her to add me on.  Hey, I know what sweets mean to healthcare workers ;-).  Anyway, after her emergency yesterday, I told her to go eat before she did my port.  She said, "I'm running to my office right now to get a brownie."

I went to chemo school today and learned about side effects, nutrition, met the social worker, etc.

Chemo starts on next Thursday (March 2).  Going to the Jazz Fest tomorrow to see Dr. John, John Mayer and others.  Don't think I'll make Dave Matthews on Sunday...sigh.  Every kind of great food you could ever dream up will be there.  Going to eat everything in sight cuz I doubt I'll feel much like eating next week.

I hate the whole idea of chemo again, but I am determined to fight! I love you all!!!!

Enjoy Jazz Fest, to the maximum!!!

THAT's the spirit, CC - make the most of the weekend! Yep, you've got a special 'pass' to eat everything & lots of it! Enjoy!!!

I, too, hate the idea of chemo again - for you, for anyone... It's absolutely horrid that once is not always enough (deep sigh)... Still, I'm hopeful for you. And will be sending extra special thoughts & prayers your way next Thursday.

    Kind regards, Susan

    One down, more to go!

    Dear CC,

Glad your port is in.  I did ask the surgeon who did my procedure on Wednesday, if he rather go home because he was tired.  He had a couple of long hard cases that day.  He was eating a donut and told me not to worry, he would be fine and so would I.  I like him, he was the one who put in my port in February.   The nurses were having a problem with my port so he fixed it and now it is in top shape.  I was so grateful that everything was able to go via the port including the blood transfusion, all the other stuff which was 2 days of non stop fillers, potassium, magnesium, lots of anti nausea drugs and etc.  This one is never coming out.  I like it better than my veins.

The nurses all love him and told me that he never is tired, he loves his job.  Still all day can be tiresome or maybe I have forgotten what it is to be young and ready to go.
