My husband was just diagnosed with T3, stage III EC.  Who do you recommend for esophageal oncology, no matter where in the U.S.?

There are a number of National Cancer Institute certified cancer centers in the United States. You can find a list here: http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/cancer-centers-names.html

Centers we have heard good things about on this board include:

  • MD Anderson in Houston, TX
  • University of Pittsburg Medical Center Pittsburg, PA
  • Dana Farber in Boston, Mass
  • Duke University Cancer Center, Durham, NC
  • Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN

You will find links to the web sites of each of these cancer centers at the website referenced in the link above.

Thank you, Paul.  We made inquiries into Mayo Clinic today.  Where can I find information on the progression of this affliction?  I want to know how it progresses, the quality of life of the person, how to make them comfortable, etc.

Here is some good basic information about esophageal cancer, staging, treatment options, and potential effects. This group is made up of survivors of all stages and survivor length. The best approach is to ask specific questions and you will find a wealth of experience and support.
