We have done a spin of this in the past, changing out avatars to our pets for a week. Once even changing our avatar to our caregiver or spouse...kinda fun, but a little weird, LOL.

Anyways, with Rick's golden, Matt's calico (I believe), and I know Phrannie will post up her new boy and maybe her bestest sheppard...Maybe even Pat will post up one of his three, or Jan and Chargee...

I decided to start a new thread for us with pet's to share and to get off topic just a little.

As Matt has mentioned before, the power of pets and animals on healing and just taking your mind off of your troubles sometimes is amazing..

Billie,

If you do not mind I am going to attach your story to the photo and hang it on the wall.

Howard looks so happy and everyone who reads his story will be too.

Doing what He likes to do best too.  Hugging up to mama.  He and Sophie would have a blast.

Thanks for saving him and posting.

Billie,

This photo "so" reflects just how much this dog loves you!

Your story is similar to mine in that our Black Lab, "Mickey" was also a "found" dog. My son, at about age 14, found him in a nearby park and carried him home on his bike. You know, one of those "look what followed me home things". Excuse me, but you appear to be carrying him.  LOL  He was tiny, dirty, sick, and covered with ticks. It was late on a Friday night, no vets were open, but we had an Emg. Animal Clinic up the street. Over the phone, they refused to take him, but I was a Mom with a mission so I put him in an empty dog food bucket and took him anyway. I simply walked in and said "You have to do something for this puppy. He's dying". They got my drift and although they couldn't tick dip him, they managed to remove the ticks. I had no $100 to pay them, so I called my Mom(bless her heart) and she provided her credit card #.  She said to me "You know you could get a dog that's not sick for much less money" and I simply replied "I know, but this dog needs me". We took him to our vet on Monday morning. He had tick fever and the vet said he probably wouldn't make it because he was so sick. But, you know what? He started eating and growing and became healthy. We were blessed to have him as a family member for fourteen years. You know the song "What's Love Got To Do With It?" The title says it all.

Sorry, I don't have a photo to post, just an old grainy, fading polaroid. But I'll keep his image in my mind and heart forever.

Luv,

Wolfen

I love that story! It's amazing what a little TLC can do for these little guys huh?! You gave him a good life for fourteen years and I bet he gave you just as much!
Thanks for sharing that wonderful story :-)

All rescue stories choke me up....poor little fart.  I will never understand people who can be cruel to animals...either thru out and out abuse or neglect....it just doesn't compute.  When I was a little girl, a man was leading a yearling colt down the street.  The colt either slipped or was too exhausted to go further and went down.  The man started beating him with a whip.  This was long before there was anyone but a cop to call, so I ran and got my mom.  She marched up to that guy (all 5'1", 90 lbs of her)  and snatched the whip out of his hand, and shook it in his face saying "how'd you like me to use this on you?".  He was bouncing around trying to stay out of her way...LOL.  He turned and walked off.  My mom coaxed the colt up.....took him to our house, got him some water and turned him out in our back yard.  The sheriff came and picked him up in the morning.  I don't think that guy every got him back.

Just 2 minutes ago my husband and I were saying we are so lucky he found us! I always wonder why he chose me at the park? I'm so glad he did but can't help but wonder why me? Then I get even more sad wondering if he'd ever approached anyone else and they ditched him...
I just love my little Howard! I wish you could meet him.

i finally figured it out. this is my best friend Sawdust, he is a 3 yr old british lab. only weighs about 95 lbs.

don't be alarmed by the colar, i do not use the shock option. when i got him i knew with my pour voice i would have to train some how. work with him for couple days and when i click the vibrate options he comes right to me and stands at my side. i have let him run and hit the button when he was at least 1/4 mile away, he came a running wide open.

is not the name for a county song, but maybe it could be.

Some time ago, we did a riff on country song titles that reflected our H &  N experiences..it was a nice break.

I am sure Pat would let you change their avatar to the fainting goat.

Thanks all for the virtual hugs..

On another note, I had a friend in the 80's who had a hedgehog.

The hedgehog was in love with the toilet brush, who must have resembled a hedgehog, I guess..

..............about saying Pat looked like a goat.  Here's a photo of him by his boat he's always talking about....Just kidding - that boat looks nothing like Pat's rig (kinda liking this photo thing)

Very happy for you brother..., you have come a long way from back in the early days.
