Steroid recall

I seem to remember that some of you who have chemo treatments have also had steroid medication with it.

I am sure by now that all have heard about the recall of a particular type which was produced at New England Compounding Center in Massachusetts.

I recently read that there is now concern about another steroid product from this place which is also suspect.

While I am sure that all medical professionals are aware of this situation, please take the extra precaution to ask your medical team about any steroid meds you may be receiving.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended the complete recall of all drugs produced by the New England Compounding Center (NECC) at 697 Waverly St. in Framingham, Massachusetts after (as of the recall on Oct. 4th, 2012) 35 cases of Aspergillus meningitis were reported by patients who had received an epidural steroid injection produced by this compounding pharmacy. At least 5 of those cases had resulted in the death of the patient at that time

Interesting I picked up my premeds and no steroid, maybe just a co-incidence, but only got anti-nausea drug. That steroid used to give me soooo much energy on chemo. day I'd come home and clean the house .... wonder what it's going to be like without it. No explanation why, the pharmacist didn't seem to know why...I didn't bring up anything about a recall, I'm sure the pharma. would know if my drug was on that list. I just think for whatever reason my onc. didn't include it this time, I'll have to ask the chemo. nurses tomorrow, as they always made sure I took both drugs before each treatment.
