They found a mass in my breast on my mammo last week. I just had follow-up scans and an ultrasound that confirmed the existence of the mass. I'm scheduled for a biopsy on Monday. Not looking forward to possibly adding a new cancer to my resume.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Post-biopsy:

Biopsy was relatively painless. However, they do a follow-up mammo right after the biopsy and marker placement, only to discover that the questionable site found on the ultrasound, while close by, was not the same as the questionable site found on the mammo. They couldn’t go back in and do another biopsy – this one will require an MRI and/or a full surgical biopsy. However, nothing will be decided until they get the pathology back from the first biopsy.

And so it continues. It will be at least a couple more weeks until I have more definitive information. My husband and I are both duly fried.

Alice

Monday's biopsy was benign. Now onto the next mass, which will definitely be a surgical biopsy.

and I'm so sorry that you have to go through more worry and medical stuff. Wish the universe could get its act together and just ease up a little on those of us who have already paid our dues, which you certainly have. Sending hugs and strength your way~Ann Alexandria

Hope that it turns out to be nothing. I've been called back several times for things that they have seen or unsure of an it ended up being nothing. Hope that all is well with you.

Sorry this is happening to you. Didn't you just have a scan recently for follow up - did that show anything or doesn't it cover the chest? Just curious how long in between the scan and mammogram?

but they don't look at the breasts in that. I had my annual exam with my gyn in May, and he didn't notice anything (but the spot they are looking at is very deep in, and I have rather -ahem- large breasts.

This is the first time I've ever had anything of concern on the right side. I had a needle biopsy of the left about 8 years ago. It was a fatty cyst. This will be a needle-core biopsy; larger needle, larger pieces of tissue. Hoping for the same benign results.

Just a pain over all.

Sad to hear you got potentially bad news, but nothing to worry about until/unless they find it to be something. Here is to hoping it will be nothing and you and your husband are able to enjoy your "rather -ahem- large breasts" for years to come with troubled thoughts of cancer nothing more than distant memories.

Maybe it's a calified mass or something like that?

Hi, Phil.

It doesn't appear to be calcified. They are leaning more towards a fluid-filled cyst, but won't know until they do the biopsy.

I'm planning on it being nothing.

Is this due to ineptness or just that gray area of medicine? I can understand you and your husband's frustration. Hope this gets resolved soon. Sometimes the waiting is the hardest part. Best wishes to you.

Just that I coincidentally have 2 spots near each other; one which only showed on the mammo, and the other on the ultrasound. The one on the ultrasound was biopsied, but they only realized it wasn't the same one as was found on the mammo when they did the post-biopsy mammo to check the placement of the marker. It wasn't in the area that was bad in the mammo.

Aaargh!

I hope it is nothing. Haven't you had your dose of cancer? I think one is too much. Hoping for good results, and the only stress is waiting.

So sorry that you didn't get a definite answer today. I'm surprised that with the ultrasound they didn't see both spots or visa versa the mammo with both spots unless one was hidden on each test. Wishing for the best outcome for you.

So sorry that you don't have any definitive answers yet, know how worrisome that is for you and hubby.

I guess the up side is that since the one they did biopsy didn't show on the mamo, at least it did on the ultrasound...don't want to miss any spots to check.

Hope that they can do detection on the other with non-invasive procedure.

Prayers that all turns out to be AOK.

I have a bilateral breast MRI scheduled for Friday morning, and see the breast specialist next week.

Thanks for all of your support. I've had a few years of all going well. But now, at least for the short term, I'm slogging through again.

on the first biopsy. Here's hoping it's a trend for the second. I have fibrocystic disease and have had several false alarms. Hope that's the case here for you.
