Has anyone participated in these walks before? Do you know how long they are? I can't find anything out about the length on the web site.

Hi, Deb -

I've participated in 2 Making Strides walks, at 2 different Southern California locations, and they were both 5Ks (3ish miles). I'm pretty sure all Making Strides are 5Ks.

Both the walks I participated in were completely non-competitive, and there wasn't even any kind of timekeeping at all. There were a few runners, but everyone else was just there for a leisurely stroll.

Hope that helps,

This is the one & only cancer awareness & fund-raising event I've participated in since recovering from my first round of treatments following original diagnosis. The first year, my team name honored my oncology doctors. Since then, my team name has honored another survivor; or, we've walked in memory of one. Next month, we'll be Team TGB - in honor of my Mom (her initials). She became a breast cancer surivor at the very end of last year.

As long as I'm breathing, I'll continue.

Traci is correct regarding the length of the walk itself. (They're all the same, no matter the location.) I'll add: no one is obligated to actually complete the entire walk. You can begin; then, if you tire or it's too much, you can leave at any point. Which I freely admit I've done, once or twice, due to health issues/limitations. One year (so far), I couldn't physically do it due to doctor's orders (leg blood clots). Still, we filled out registration forms & collected sponsorship donations - which were mailed in to the ACS.

If you decide to participate in your local MSABC, I truly hope you find it uplifing and empowering.

Kind regards, Susan
