Those flounder I caught last week made for a good article in a local angler magazine;

Hey John, great catch, you give new meaning to "floundering on the water" (is that even a saying, maybe it's in the water, well what the heck). I believe that getting back to the activities that we love is one of the best parts of recovery, and one of the best signs that we are movin on. Keep movin on John.

I'm going out with the lads at 6am in the morning
on a drift boat, I've not been out with them since
the end of last year before dx. If I come back with
a quarter of what John catches I'll be happy...( I'll be
happy if I catch one actually ).

Most of the time we use the chicken rig with squid
with a heavy weight and go for Vermilion Snapper, Trigger
fish, anything near the bottom or over the reef. If the weather
is bad we go on top for King Fish. We go out of Dania Beach
on the "Sea Leggs II" but were actually of the coast at Pompano
Beach over the reef ( There's two ).
If we catch any I will try and post a photo.

Yes, I caught the "red neck" innuendo. And sure, I figure it's just because I cry a lot...Huh?...At least nobody ever called me "Flounder!"- LOL. Seriously, perhaps I can get my Mermaid friend Reese W. to persuade a Mississippi Mudcat to mosey on down to Florida and scare all the little fishies away!

Seriously, have you seen any of the stories about what this drought/summer has done to the fish population in the midwest's rivers and creeks? Been one heckuva disaster- mostly caused by the water temp getting too high. Not sure the pesticide runoff helps, either. Some of the stories told by Conservation people of what they've seen are unreal- couple-mile stretches on smaller rivers of dead fish everywhere. Read a power plant on the Illinois River near Peoria got knocked-off the grid- fish had literally blocked a water filter/screen and caused an overheat in the plant. My Dad tells me this is the worst summer up here since 1936. Heard it's even hit the large and small mouths, too.

You know I was teasin...

Yes, weather has been horrible out west this year. Very hot here as well, but at least we're back into the afternoon down pours most ays.

Yes, I could see how the fish could cause problems with the traveling screens at the inputs. Not sure on their reference to an overheat... If it's a steam plant, that water woul be used to cool the steam back to condensate and water for steam again (the steam side is a separate and closed system).

The cooling water just acts as a heat exchanger takes the heat from the steam filled pipes and cools that water.

But it could definitely cause problems...

We have teo old units that still use lake water. If the lake gets too low becuase of evaporation the units can run...their intakes would be too close to the surface.

Most of our plants use effluent water (treated waste water from the waste water plants. They (we) treat it, use it for cooling water, clean it back up and send it back to wate water plants.

Just hoping we can get through the hurricane season with no events....

You are a Fisherman and I am a Fisher of Men we do the same thing only with different hooks.

Great Story John and I am still looking forward to someday getting back to Tampa and doing a little fishing with you.

Man does that look good i may just have to come out there sometime i'm having flounder tonight but its frozen and from sams i ushually put in the skillet with some parmsean cheese and some other spices any other ideas how to cook it i know its not fresh but its as close as i can get LOL.

Matt, I thought you were in the area.... If so get with me...we can make it happen.

As for one recipe I like, Flounder ~ Florida Style with Stuffing;

Flounder as you know, are super mild and not an oily fish, very light and delicate.

I love fried fish as well, but my wife doesn't like me to fry fish too much.

So I fillet these out, you get four nice fillets from each fish BTW.

Anyways I fillet these (absolutely no bones), and put them on a cookie sheet sprayed with a little PAM first.

I make some stuffing by sautee some chopped onion and celery, add in a little shrimp, scallops and crab if I have it.

BTW, Publix has a frozen Seafood Medley near their fresh seafood....around $5 per bag... It has shrimp, calamari, scallops, and mussels.., I've been using that lately with great results.

Take that and put it in a mixing bowl...add about a cup of Panko Bread crumbs, add an egg, a little fresh parmesan, a teaspoon or so of Old Bay Seasoning, and a small splash of lemon or lime juice.

Then a scoop of mayo, and some heavy creamy. Mixing it until it's thick and gooey, but not not clumpy like thick oatmeal...sort of thinned oatmeal, it doesn't hold shape...add heavy cream to thin it.

Then a few tablespoons of the stuffing on each piece of fish and bake at 350* for about 25 minutes...just don't over cook it as the fish will dry out."
