I was diagnosed 3 months ago with stage 3 OVCA. A month later I was tested and confirmed BRCA1 positive.

My mom is a breast cancer survivor (10 years NED). We immediately got my mom and my daughter tested for BRCA1 / BRCA2. I was scared and guilt-ridden for a month, which was making my chemo experience not all it was designed to be.

My 18-year-old daughter's test came back today: NEGATIVE!!! I am SO relieved. She is my only child. This thing stops with me.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for my mom's test results.

Such wonderful news. If your mom's test is negative then it means you got the gene from your dad. They don't just appear from nowhere. Only you know how that would affect any siblings, aunts...? On the bright side, studies show that those with the mutation have better results to treatment and longer remissions.

Many thanks!

I am an only child - no siblings to worry about.
My dad (deceased) was an only child.
My mom (hopefully she is negative) has a brother who only has male children and grandchildren.

If anyone is curious:
In Canada BRCA testing is free, covered by provincial insurance.
Insurance also covers any subsequent mammograms, MRI every 6 months, prophylactic oompectomy, prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with breasts reconstruction.

I am so happy for your daughter and for you too. My mom had ovarian cancer, August 17th it will be one year she got her wings. She did the testing as well and we learned there was no genetic component to her cancer either. It was a relief to her as well. Mom had one brother who died at 16 of liver cancer and no sisters. Mom however had/has 4 daughters and 6 granddaughters.
I am in Ontario, Canada and so happy to be.
