Quick run down: bilateral on 7/9, previous lumpectomy with 33 radiation treatments on the right. Drains removed at 7 days, postop infection in right requiring readmission and another drain and antibiotics. Got that handled and now I have a seroma (2nd drain removed at day 7) that had been needle drained twice for 105 mls and 70 mls.

Any advice?

Maureen

Many of us have had this
Many of us have had this fluid reaccumulation after the drains are removed. Usually, it resolves without having to reinsert the drains, but you may have to have the site tapped again a couple of times. Best of luck and big hugs!

    I had problems with seroma.
I had problems with seroma. My pc wrapped my chest with an ace bandage. I could only take it off to shower. (one hour). I had it for 6 weeks. but to me it was better than getting another drain, which I HATED. Interesting as he is a young guy, but it was an older method. My breast surgeon, was suprised it worked. Also I made a point of not doing any twisting motions with my chest. The reason you get seroma is the area needs to tack down and if there is a pocket it will fill up with fluid. once it has healed then you shouldnt accumulate any more. hope this helps

I had surgery in April and I still have one seroma.
Had it needle aspirated just before I started rads but it filled back up. I had a month of lymphatic massage therapy and the therapist massaged the seroma along with the lymph areas. It went from being walnut size to pea sized with the massage therapy. None of my docs (MO, RO, BS, PS) are concerned about it. It will probably go away on it's own, or I could try having it needle aspirated again.

    thanks
for the feedback. I have an appointment on the 16th and we shall see. I know it is slowing down and that side is so hard, it's hard to tell what is going on. My biggest issue is I need to get back to work. I think it'll be fine and I know so many of our sisters have bigger issues.
