Another One Bites the Dust

Okay, here's another of those "anyone else experience this" kinda thing. All my life I've been pretty agile and graceful. My sister in law once told me "you must have been a cat in a previous life!" Now, over the past several months, I've turned into something of a klutz. I can understand dropping things because of the neuropathy in the fingers, and even stumbling while walking thanks to the same thing in the feet. What gets me is when lifting something off of the back of a shelf and knock over something in front of it or setting a glass down and pulling my hand back and knocking over the glass because I didn't lift my hand high enough. Even tossing and catching things has become a miss more than hit affair.

So, has anyone else noticed anything like this? Is it a side effect of chemo or a side effect of getting old?

    Dear Doc
While I have a few years on you, my guess would be either or both could be contributing.

I too have found that spacial perspective is not as good as it used to be.

Just one more adjustment to make as we get more of those years that have become so precious.

    Hugs,

    Both
LOL Probably both. I'd remember putting a glass on the table and thinking it was high enough for the table and let go and it landed on the floor, dropped a whole jar of pickles (including the juice) on the floor, dropping things out of my hands and yes, the stumbling too - even in a grocery store, or yeah and because of the neuropathy dropping vegetables because they were so cold. Combination of both. It can be frustrating especially when you do something in public and people see you, but I'd smile and continue on.

    Clumsy
Doc, I ride a motorcycle and have found that it takes a great deal more concentration and deliberate practiced maneuvers to remain safe. Sounds odd but that has been my experience. As far as throwing and catching? Neuropathy has hit here especially when trying to hold onto the ball when it comes to me. Hope this helps Art
P.S. No idea how old you are but I am 57.

    Another example of when we
Another example of when we must maintain a sense of humor..
I too have had these experiences.. but not so much with hands I a try to be vigilant watching out for stuff like that as I think I broke or cracked a small toe dropping a can of tomato's about 2 months ago and didn't know I did it..
tripping and stubbing my toes I experience all most everyother day or so..
    I don't think its age..
It is neuropathy..from Oxialiplatin.. a really crappy drug I can't believe is promoted as a good drug.. Ha... I will never take that ever again.. they may as well have given me a knive or gun.. it would have been a easier way of killing me ..

Howdy Art, I haven't noticed any problems while riding and hopefully never will. I'm 53 and have been riding since I was 12. The only problem that I have encountered is when the cracks in my finger tips hurt when I use the clutch or brake, but wearing gloves takes care of that annoyance.

    Dropsies
Yeah, the thing with going to put something down and it's still an inch or so above the table is another one. Fortunately I haven't broken anything and the messes haven't been too bad.

I think it's both. I drop things all the time now. Loved it when it was a full bottle of virgin olive oil!
    Frustrating.

    drop it.
I've noticed myself dropping things, and breaking a few glasses here and there.
    it stinks.

and, if i'm standing up and if i close my eyes... I stumble or have fallen.

if i ever get pulled over by a cop and they make me get out of the car... I'll just close my eyes as i get out and most likely i'll just fall down.

    lol.

this is crazy and I thought it was Just Me.

    dropping things
I drop things and knock things off my desk. I think God wants my husband to have a reason to give me nasty looks, as I used to always chew him out for not being careful enough. Last night it was some mac and cheese that landed on the floor. If you drop or spill something, just laugh and clean it up. I do not get on my bikes though unless I am feeling fully functional.I don't want to have my neighbor, who is an EMT, picking me up off the road.

    Yep...
I too thought it was just me. My dexterity sucks thouroughly. Drop things all the time. And it's also fun to text on my phone with bandaids all over the place. I try to laugh it off, but it gets frustrating. But that's what I love about this board -- knowing that I'm not alone with these strange side effects and experiences. Dan

    All that and
I tend to walk into door facings ALOT! If my husband or the grandkids are around I let them get my good dishes down...I carry nothing hot. My hand tends to just open up without even asking me ! :). Gotta laugh or I'd be crying all the time! :)

    hand opening
Glad you mentioned the and opening on it's little ole lonesome. Mine does that sometimes, too. Fortunately it's always been while carrying a book or something else that's not going to break and make a mess.

It must be the chemo!!! I"m 80, don't have nuropathy, and am no more klutsy than I ever was. Maybe later it will all go away.

    Another "do ya ever"
I tend to get the hiccups while I'm wearing the pump. I do have GERD and take presciption prilosec for it. Does any one else get hiccups? If so do you have GERD?

My niece has been doing that
My niece has been doing that her whole life, she's a total clutz. I vote getting old because I was more clutzy before this cancer diagnosis. And I've always been really steady and had great aim. I think it comes from working, being tired and aging.
