Update on George

Sorry I haven't been around much, I had George in the hospital for several days. I don't scare easy at all but this time I was.

His immune system was shot. We even had to wear a mask to go into the room. He received 4 or maybe it was 6 units of blood, platelets and some other stuff. Poor guy was weak as a kitten. When they started the first blood transfusion he would spike a fever so it had to be done very slowly and they administered some anti-biotics and all calmed down after that.

He has rebounded very nicely. When we first came home his diet was pretty strict for a few days, no leafy vegies, no fresh fruit of any kind, no salads of any kind, no fresh vegetables, no meat, no tomato based stuff, heck they even said no flowers in the house. His diet is back to normal now. Feeding him and he was hungry was a challenge.

He finally had his retirement party (the first one had to be canceled). The gang at work did a fabulous job. George was really overwhelmed when he opened a gift and it contained an I-Pad. Colleagues down in New Orleans sent him a very generous gift card to Bass Pro and we now have $400.00 in gift cards to his favorite restaurant. The generosity has been overwhelming at times and left George quite emotional.

He was feeling pretty good this week and with the heat downstate (Michigan) we came up to the cottage for 4 days so it has been nice up here.

On the cancer front, all is stable and as we all know, stable is good. So thats about it for now. Hopefully I will get some time to respond to some of the posts.

Take care all - Hugs Tina

    Hard times
What a rough patch you have both been through. I think these are often harder on carers than the person going through it all. But it sounds like you have both come through well and sensibly taken some time to recoup your energies.

look after yourselves and enjoy playing with the ipad- the ideal toy, thinking of getting myself one for an up coming potentially long stay in hospital. Been looking for an excuse to for some time!

What awful news to hear but I'm so glad that h is doing so much better. Enjoy the time at the cottage. Yes, it has been unusually hot here. You both deserve to get away for awhile. Congratulations on his retirement.

    Hey Dan,

Before Flagstaff I lived in Mesa for 12 years. No kidding about that 100+ heat! After about 105 my ex-wife would say that it was "100 and you've got to be kidding me!"

In Flagstaff you are nearly a mile higher in altitude than Tucson. I try to get out of town In July and August to avoid the worst of it,
Tried Payson Last year. it;s higher elevation is also much cooler. Hope your chemo works its miracle.
