Foolow-Up

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
Last tues day I had a small , well small is a relative word, section of the left side of my tounge removed as a result of a biopbsy I had earlier in June that showed some SCC cells. Besides the pain, the stitches , everything is going well...I saw my onco this morning , she had the pathology reports all margings clear/negative, no more signs of cancer, she hugged me , said she didn't see any need for additional chemo or rads..YEAH!!! and that she would see me in 3 months for my regular check up. Now this coming Monday I see my ENT who did the surgery for a post op follow up..hope to get the stitches removed and an all clear from him. Now with this worry gone , I can get some decent sleep , and just wait for the next PET in Sept. I will say when my treatments finished in Dec 11, along with 2 NED PET scans in Mar and June 2012, I thought I was on the road to free and clear..but I'm glad I persisted with all my docs about the spot I found on the left side of my tounge in late Jan early Feb..had I not kept after them who knows how far this small section would have spread..so allof you out there you know your bodies, when something doesn't feel right or look right get in touch with your docs.I'd rather them think I was a pain in the bum versus not taking any action. I know we all know to check stuff out and hate to be standing on this soap box as a reminder....Take care all..blessings & light.

    I don't know..maybe Sweden would be at least cooler than this 113 in Phoneix AZ today.

    I'm in Baltimore...it's about 85. 113?! I can't relate. Nice to meet ya. Stay cool and keep "the beast" at bay. Hope everything is going well with you healthwise.

    Small World
    I was just in Bel Air for the last 2 weeks, my daughter , son-in-law , and grandaughter live there. Did you get a chance to see any of the Sailabration, we went to see the Blue Angels at the airport where they had the air show, we never made it to the harbor with all the crowds.

    Other than this last little blip on the tongue, every thing is going great, was one of the lucky ones who came thru all treatments with flying colors. I've read some of your post about the blahs, your not shinning, vent away , I've found this site to be a great source, there is always someone here who understands.

    Smaller than you think!
    My sister and brother-in-law live right outside of Belair. I'm part of a gallery downtown (in Fells Point) and was down there during the sailabration. Crowds?! I haven't seen that many people down there in a LONG time. I didn't see the tall ships because I was busy in the gallery but I heard the blue angels go over several times!

    Wonderful news, Linda....
    "Clean margins"....those are just the best words a person can hear!! You persistance just proves that being a squeaky wheel when it comes to our health is the only way to go!

    Hi Linda,

    Great news and you found it yourself, how interesting. May I ask you a couple of questions? Where on the side of your tongue (inside mouth or down throat)? Could you see it? What did it feel like? Was it sore?

    Since my tongue has been an active participant in my diagnosis and treatments every little nuance makes me think, is there something to worry about.

    Now, back to the celebration, The Blue Angels, how cool.

    I saw / found a white sore like a canker sore on the left side of my tounge…that was late Jan early Feb...it definately wasn't there during or after treatments. Reading some post here I saw something about scatter burns from rads where the rad may hit fillings...but then again the rads were not at my mouth. It wasn't sore at first but if I chewed something crunchy and it hit the spot it hurt, then when I used a mint flavored toothpaste or mouthwash it was burny...all thru this I kept an eye on it and kept after the docs...when I saw my ENTin may he said when he saw me at my next 6 he would do a small biopsy...the rest is what got me today. My onco said again today just keep an eye on everything. Hope this helps...let me know if you have any other questions.
