Staple Removal

Good morning... 11 days post-op from my liver resection and will be going in to get the staples removed. This is a first for me. Is this painful? Any suggestions?

I burst into tears this morning at just the thought of going to the doctors much to my husand's surprise. I told him that every time I go to the doctor's lately, it always seems the news is worse. He was shocked and reminded me that we were not going in for test results or anything. That they did the surgery on the liver and all was clear 10 days ago. That we will focus on the lung as soon as I recover but I already know there is another surgery in the near future, this one on the lung.

I'm usually so positive about everything. I don't know what is wrong with me. :(

    not bad
Everything should be good. Having the staples removed isn't too bad. Praying recovery continues to go well. Jeff

    It may be a bit
It may be a bit uncomfortable, but you will be fine. As for what is wrong with you? You had surgery and it throws your entire body into a tailspin. Patience, you will feel like your old self in no time.

    Hi Vicki

So glad one of your procedures is over...stapel removal will not really hurt you...after all that you just went through, you'll be asking them..."that all you got" :)

There might be a slight pinch on a couple of them, but maybe not either.

I think the tears came from that part of your awareness that sees what still lies ahead...and it got overwhelming there for a minute or two until you regained your balance:)

And there's nothing wrong with you at all...you're right on track with everything...if these moments come, just live in the moment and then it will pass...you are very positive and a very positive person.

All I saw was a glimmer of doubt at having to climb another mountain after already reaching the top of the other one with your surgery...who wouldn't be tired?

Tears are the lubrication for the soul...and I've found that I've shed a few over the years of my journey...it really is cleansing...and one of nature's organic remedies to help us through to where we need to get to next:)

Pulling for you all the way...and when lung time comes...I'd be glad to share my experience with you if you ever want to talk about it...I've done the da Vinci robot and open throacotomy procedures.

But for now, you just get well soon:)

    No pain
I had mine (27 staples for liver resection and 2 large hernias) removed just recently and a couple had a tiny pinch. Mine had been in place for 3 weeks due to my surgeon having to cancel an appointment. I was more concerned about the removal of my drain. I felt the stitches being cut and removed but did NOT feel the 12 inches of tubing being removed.

Expect steri strips which will fall off by themselves.
