Zometa for osteopenia

My Oncologist is recommending that I have twice a year Zometa infusions for osteopenia. Anyone had Zometa? Have you had many side effects? Heard good things/bad things about it?

    i had it
    It gave me four days of leg pain but everyone is different in how they react to the way the onco treats their cancer. It is also helps in hopefuly to keep the tumors at bay. Forgive the spelling chemo brain

    I am currently on Zometa infusions once a month. I have recently been diagnosed at Stage 4 with bone mets. The Zometa is to strengthen my bones. From what I understand, it is not for treatment of the cancer--I have Faslodex injections for that.

    So far, I have had 5 Zometa infusions and have not had any issues at all. Nancy, on this board, advised me to take 2 extra strength Tums the morning of, 2 more while I'm getting the infusion and 2 more in the evening. She said it prevents the bone/joint pain you sometimes get with the Zometa infusions. Well, I do that religiously, and so far, no problems at all.

    I was really afraid to take Zometa--a rare but very serious side effect is osteonecrosis of the jaw bone. But, as I said this is very rare and I've decided to "let go, let God."

    Tums...
    Tums do the trick...amazing isn't...something so simple...the chemo nurse is the one who told me...I had some in my purse, due to heart burn from the Decadron I was on...I took two right then..and then as Renee stated...never had the first problem...
