Hello All. My mother was diagnoised with Lung Cancer 3 weeks ago. She goes on June 11th to have a port put in to start chemo they are going to use 2 drugs and she starts radiation next week. She has two masses in her left lung and surrounding lymph nodes in her esophagus. We lost my grandmother (her mother) 3 years ago to Lung Cancer and my dad 12 years ago. I am a nurse and want to have so much hope but just having a really difficult time with this. She is alone I live 2 hours away and am getting down as often as possible. just looking for some resources for her to have support.

    Welcome
So glad you found us but sorry for the circumstances that bring you. With your background, both personal and professional, you know a great deal about this disease process. I know that that makes it worse in so many ways. It is never easy to lose someone you love but moms are truly special to us. My mom died of nsclc adenocarcinoma 4.5 years before I was dx'd with the same disease.

Do you know if there is a Gilda's Club or Cancer Support Center near her? http://cancersupportannarbor.org/

The social worker at her hospital should be able to connect her with drivers or people who can sit with her. Does she have a good friend who can spend nights with her? Is there a local Meals on Wheels? Was she a church goer? Can her pastor help? How about extended family- cousins, in-laws? Is there anyone who can stay with her a day or two a week? Would she move in with you and transfer to a new oncologist? Would you even have room?

I will include you both in my prayers.

I wish there was something I could say...
But the truth is there isn't much that I could say to make you feel any better. I'm sorry to hear about your mom....you both will be in my thoughts. I know what you are going through because I lost my mother (on Feb. 20) to lung cancer stage 3b...I was her primary caregiver and so I saw the best days and the worst for two years. I know that it is a difficult time for everyone in your family...but what your wrote appealed to me because my grandmother (mom's side) also died of throat and lung cancer. If you ever want to talk, vent, anything...we are all here to listen. My best wishes, Amanda

    So Sorry
I am so sorry. I dont know what to say other than I understand and you are not alone. I lost my mom, age 54 to NSCLC on May 19th of this year. My grandpa, her dad also died of lung cancer, also at age 54.
I am here if you ever want to talk. I am looking for a few support friends that I know understand and can share with.

    Hey
    Hey Jewels,

I hope you are doing well. I am sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I have been so busy with my mom. I hope you are doing alright. She just had her 3rd Chemo treatement. She had to stop radiation therapy due to contracting CDiff. She starts back tomorrow however I think she has contracted it again she started running a fever and having abdominal cramps 3 days ago. I am so sorry to hear about your mother and grandpa. I know its so hard. I lost my grandmother 3 years ago to the same disease. I know loosing a mother is one of the hardest things we ever go through. Stay strong and know I am praying for you. Hope to hear from you soon.

    Huggs
