was told this morning, needless to say the chemo I was on is not working navelbine. Dr has ordered a cat scan waiting to hear when. Will be talking to the Dr some more on what to do next. We talked this morning about a procedure called desensitizing so I can have cabo again had a bad reaction my 9th treament. Also some other drugs that are my options they are hexalen, alimta, and etoposide. Haven't had time to look these up yet. Been on chemo for almost a year now straight without any breaks except for sugery in feb. thats why they put me on navebine was suppose to be kinder on my system so I could heal more. Already been on cabo/taxol, gemzar, doxol, taxol alone, carbo, topotecan and then navelbine. At least now I know more than I did yesterday, I'm one that has to know what is happening good or bad whis way I can deal with it better than not knowing. Thanks for all the best wishes and prays in the past and cross your fingers that something works fast. also the pains in my stomach are back this has happened a couple of times in the past but went away on there own the scan will tell us if these pains are something happening in my stomach, I hope not. Keep yu posted thanks Kathy

    Kathy, I'm so sorry this
Kathy, I'm so sorry this treatment isn't working. But, it sounds like your doctor is not giving up and has other treatments to try. that's a good thing! Keep your spirits up and keep fighting! You're in my prayers. ((((Hugs))).

    Dear Kathy
I'm so sorry your CA 125 went so high. I've recently been on the deseniting procedure with carbo and when I had my 2nd cycle, I got allergic again, broke out in a rash. Dr. put me on Benedryl right away and had 3rd cycle, but again I became allergic. So, I don't know what's what. I've been on Hexalen and that did absolutely nothing for me except my cancer got worse. I had Alimta back in October last year for 3 months, but unfortunately it didn't work either. I've been on all the ones you were on and it does get very discouragin. I wish you the best and will keep my fingers crossed for you. I too have had pains in my stomach and my doc told me it's from the tumors pressing on the organs. Sometimes the pain is so bad, I can just cry. Then it goes away for a couple of days and I'm ok. I don't know, but I am getting very discouraged myself.

    Take care.

    Dear Kathy
I'm so sorry to hear that your latest combo isn't keeping those numbers down. I, too, am allergic to carbo, but I can handle the older drug, cisplatin. It's given to me along with gemzar. I've been on chemo for the past two and half years... ugh... We'll be waiting to hear about your scan and hope that you get relief from those stomach pains.

    Thanks Mwee
I think I'll mention that to my Dr. My scan will be this tuesday and will be sitting down with the dr on wed. to go over everthing. I've been on chemo almost 2 years now, like you said ugh. I was on gemzar alone back on 2010 but the numbers kept climbing only on it for 2 months. maybe a combo will do the trick. One can only hope. Stomach pains are not as bad but still want know what causing them.Should know a lot more this week. Thanks for the reply. Kathy

    Etoposide
Is there anyone who has used etoposide and can talk about the side effects? Searching the web there does not seem to be much information about reactions to the stuff except that everyone seems to agree it is heavy duty, which I assume, means difficult to deal with. I will be starting in the next couple of days.

    Hello jetties
I never went on etoposide. went with cisplatin instead, and after 2 treatments my number is down to 1815 from 2174. That's a reduced amount also. there're going slow with the amount I receive so as to avoid a reaction. I'm getting apprx. 40 to 50% rigt now. From what I read and was told cisplatin was a better choice for me right now. I have to tell you it is pretty strong stuff. I'm having trouble with nausea and throwing which is something I was so fortunate not to have dealt with even with being on 9 different chemo drugs.cispaltin I was told is in the same family as carboblatin. How are you doing? What stage cancer do you have? I'm sure there are other ladies on this board that know more about etoposide. Let me know how yor doing. I take it your new to this board. Welcome aboard. Kathy

    Hi Kathy
I'm so glad to hear that the cisplatin is working for you. I've been able to stay on it for an extended period of time and it's still holding me steady... not fun, but working!

numbers continue to go down, Kathy. When I come to this board and read what everyone is going through, it makes me wish I had a magic wand I could wave that would take this disease away.

    etoposide
I had cisplatin in conjunction with taxol and it was pretty grim but it did give me about 9 months before I had a recurrence. I hope it works better for you, but 9 months isn't bad. I have had carbo and gemzar together which gave me 14 months feeling almost normal, avastin didn't work and neither did doxil. I was hoping someone could tell me about etoposide before I start it. Anyway, much luck Kathy,

Have you heard of gemzar. I had it with carboplatin and had 14 months of good numbers and clear scans. It was also pretty easy to take. Anyway, good luck.
