Home from the hospital today about 4:00pm. Had my takedown surgery around 8:00am yesterday. Doc said everything went great and things are working as they should already. I'm pretty sore but overall feel pretty good. Very strange though, they left a nickle sized hole in my side where the stoma was. They didn't close it up. Even the nurses were surprized when they changed the bandage. Doc said that's how he does it now, he lets it heal from within. Huh??? Looks just like a bullet hole. Oh well, gotta trust him, he's been a terriffic surgeon so far. Felt really good to sit on the toilet and go again. I even have good control so far and can "hold it" for a half hour or more once I feel the urge. I'm truly surprised so far and feeling glad I went through with it. Still keeping my fingers crossed. I'm looking forward to catching up on my reading in (on) my favorite reading chair. If you know what I mean.... It's nice being waited on but hospitals SUCK!!!!

    Great progress
Sounds like you are doing really well- certainly took me longer to get to the stage you are at with that control. Don't worry too much about the wound- stomas tend to leave some what larger scars than normal ops- mine is certainly much more prominent than my laparotomy scar and so one way to try and improve that is to let is heal from the base up as you surgeon is. Will be interesting to hear how it goes.

Keep up with giving us your good news stories though,
    steve

    home quickly
After my takedown I developed a fistula. Doc said a staple probably came loose. So intestine attached itself to stomach at stoma opening.
When intestine closed itself, the hole from the stoma also closed itself from the inside out. The body can sure work in mysterious ways.
Wish you well with your recovery!!
