Are any of you out there dealing with being the caretaker for a cancer patient who has a mental illness? If so, I'd be interested to hear your experiences. How do you handle the added stress and difficulties? How you maintain your own mental health?

I am not a caretaker of a person with mentaL isllness, but I am aware of a support group for those who have impacted by someone with mental illness. The name is NAMI (an acronym for something) you cvan go on line and find out where they meet in your area. It is pretty much a national org. I would play that one and the cancer support group. There is also a caregiver group out there that is national.

Thank you very much for the suggestion, but there are no support groups for caretakers in my area, let alone support groups for those who take care of cancer patients with mental illness.

It requires too much of patients and courage to be the caretaker of the person with mental illness.

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm one of many, many people who are caretakers for cancer patients with mental illness.
