post rad plaque removal method

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
I have seen a post a while back in regards to removing plaque from teeth by manual scaling instead of using a cavitron machine. I told my dentist about this and he didnt have much opionion on whether it's required or not for head and neck post radiation patient and he doesnt mind doing it manually. Would it be as effective as cleaning it with the cavitron machine? What does your dentist recommend?

    Manually...
    Actually, womanly...the techs at my dentist do it manually...but I just think that's the way they do all of the deep cleanings.

    Mine also clean them manually. They won't have much to scale if you floss every night though. Luckily I've been doing that for years so I got the jump on it. But now after all my work I may end up losing a few down the road. Maybe, maybe not. Preferably the later.

    deep cleaning vs regular cleaning
    I have only done regular cleaning in the dental office, how often you do "deep cleaning" with local anesthetic?

    Cleaning...
    I referenced deep cleaning, but they do both manually.

    Mine does the deep cleaning annually, and regular in between. Even with the deep cleaning, no special anesthetic.

    Like above, I floss pretty regularly and though the deep cleaning can be a bit painful, it hasn't been unbearable.
