VIN progression

Hello all. I have just seen a gyno for a white vulval lesion. I'm now scheduled for a biopsy and colposcopy, so I'm unsure of the stage, but the doctor says he doesn't think it's cancer yet.
My question is, can vulval cancer appear spontaneously, or does it progress through the various stages of VIN first? I'm 44 years told, and I'm not sure if I'm HPV positive, but I've never had an abnormal pap or any problems till I noticed this white area a year ago. I'd never even heard of vulval cancer, or would have sought attention sooner.
Needless to say, I'm scared, especially after reading about the treatments!
My appointment is not for two weeks - they're waiting for the pap results - and I'm doing my utmost to remain in the moment and calm.

I AM 43 YRS OLD, WHEN I WAS 25 AFTER THE BIRTH OF MY SON I WAS TOLD MY DYSPLASIA HAD SPREAD ALL OVER MY UTERUS, AND I HAD NO PLANS TO HAVE ANY MORE CHILDREN, HAD 3 NOW, SO MY DR., SUGGESTED HAVE MY UTERUS REMOVED... I DID SO, IM TELLING THIS PART BECAUSE I FEEL IT HAS ALOT TO DO WITH MY ISSUES NOW, AFTER 18 YRS, NOTHING.....UNTIL THIS PAST MAY, I BEGAN HAVING TERRIBLE ITCHING IN MY VAGINAL AREA, SOMETHING TOLD ME TO "LOOK" AND I SAW WHAT LOOKED LIKE A BIG VERY WHITE COTTON BALL, WITH A FEW LITTLE PEA SIZE ONES AROUND IT..SO I MADE ANY APPT. TO SEE MY PCP. SHE WAS BAFFLED AND TOLD ME SHE DID NOT KNOW WHAT IT WAS, AND I THOUGHT VERY HIGHLY OF HER FOR SAYING THAT, I THINK DR'S SOMETIMES ARE FAR TOO PRIDEFUL AND DO NOT WANT TO ADMIT "THEY DON'T KNOW SOMETHING", ANYWHO, SHE BIOPSIED IT AND WITHIN A FEW DAYS SHE CALLED AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE UGLY "C" WORD....BUT WANTED TO SEND ME TO A GYN/ONCOLOGIST FOR MORE INFO AND HELP... I WAS BROUGHT IN 2 DAYS LATER, AND HE JUST READ THE PATHOLOGY REPORT AND SAID "NO" NOT CANCER, AND SENT ME ON MY WAY...FEW DAYS LATER, I CALLED HIS OFFICE BACK AND SAID THAT I WAS VERY SCARED AND CONFUSED..ONE DR., AND REPORT SAID ONE THING, HE SAYS SOMETHING ELSE, AND DIDN'T EVEN EXAM ME..LATER THAT DAY HIS ASSISTANT CALLED ME BACK AND SET AN APPT. FOR NEXT DAY, HE EXAMINED ME AND SAID ALL THIS STUFF I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND, ALL I GOT WAS "' WE NEED TO SET YOU UP FOR A PROCEDURE THAT IS WHERE I WILL CUT IT OUT AND SCRAPE ANY EXCESS....WHAT??????? MY PCP IS BEWILDERED AND IM SCARED, MY PCP SAID ITS VIN II. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE, I GO TO A COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC, AND A WONDERFUL PROGRAM HERE IN TOWN, WOMEN'S RESOURCE CENTER ACTUALLY PAID THE 250.00 CONSULT FEE TO SEE THE ONCOLOGIST/GYN... AND I CAN HAVE THE PROCEDURE DONE THROUGH THE HOSPITAL UNDER A PROGRAM CALLED "INDIGENT CARE". ANYWAY, I GUESS I FEEL LIKE SINCE I HAVE NO "REAL" INSURANCE, IM BEING PUSHED ALONG BY THIS "SPECIALIST"....ONE NOTE: CANCER RUNS IN MY FAMILY BIG TIME...MY SISTER PASSED AWAY FROM BREAST CANCER AT AGE 34, THIS WAS 6 YRS AGO, AND SHE TOO HAD TO GO THROUGH A COUNTY HOSPITAL, TRUST ME CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS OF AMERICA WOULDN'T EVEN SEE HER CUZ SHE HAD NO INSURANCE...POOOOY ON THEM AND SHAME SHAME SHAME, WHEN SHE WAS DIAGNOSED SHE ALREADY HAD STAGE 3, AND I STILL FEEL LIKE IF ONE OF THIS BIG CANCER PLACES WOULD'VE HELPED HER SHE WOULDN'T HAVE DIED IN 16 MONTHS....ALSO, MY MOM HAD CERVICAL CANCER, HER SISTERS (3) OF THEM, MY AUNTS ALL HAD BREAST CANCER, 1 DID DIE TOO AT AGE 45, THE OTHER TWO HAD BOTH BREAST REMOVED AND LIVED 8-9 MORE YEARS, SORRY TO RAMBLE ON AND ON, IM JUST SO SCARED AND FEEL LIKE I BEING PUSHED ASIDE AND NO ONE BUT MY PCP DR CARES AND SHE IS NOT AT ALL EXPERIENCED IN THIS, ACTUALLY SHE'S ONLY BEEN A PRACTICING DR FOR 1 YR, BUT I THINK SHES AWESOME, SHE REALLY TRIES AND HAS TRIED TO FIND OUT MORE AND TALK TO THE "SPECIALIST", BUT HE'S 30 YRS INTO HIS FIELD AND REALLY FINDS IT OFFENSIVE HOW SHE CALLS HIM TO GET MORE INFO....ANYWAY, IM JUST NEEDING SUPPORT AND WAYS TO DEAL WITH THIS, CUZ I DON'T WANT IT CUT OUT, IF THERES LASER AND OTHER TREATMENTS, ANY ADVICE????? AND I AM TRULY SORRY FOR GOING ON AND ON AND ON ETC., THANKS FOR THIS CONNECTION AND IT HAS HELPED ME LEARN SOME THINGS ABOUT VIN I-II-III ETC.. THANK YOU TINA, FROM COLORADO

Tina, what you describe really does sound like it needs to be cut out.  I don't know if you had it done or not.  But I hope someday you come back and post and let us know how you are doing.  I truly feel that this doctor really was telling you what was right.

I hope you are well.

Hugs
