Hi, I am newly diagnosed with some sort of cancer (hopefully ovarian). I had a baseball size tumor removed from my right ovary last Monday. My gyn/onc also removed the other ovary and 5 lymph nodes which were all clean. My gyn/onc didn't think the tumor was cancer by looking at it but the lap report indicated otherwise so she opened my up and cleaned out everything really well. My CA-125 was only 37. My fear is that this tumor is not a primary cancer and I have some other primary site somewhere. I will get the pathology report next friday and find out where we go from here. Any thoughts?

    WELCOME, MARNEL
Waiting is always so difficult. There are so many possible scenarios that it would be difficult to say without pathology reports. But having a gyn/onco is the best you can do for this type of situation. Don't dwell on the 'what ifs' too much right now. Once Friday rolls around you'll know what you're dealing with. And between you, your doctor and the wonderful people on this board, you'll get through this. Please keep us informed. Till then. . .

    chemo
Hi Val...I haven't started chemo yet and haven't seen the path report. My next doc appt. will be Friday to go over the path report and decide what to do next. My doc did put a port in my side so that when I need chemo it will be one less surgery.

    Welcome
There's a good chance it's ovarian cancer and maybe it's low grade. Have you had any scans? What symptoms were you having that lead you to the doctor?

We are here for support and we know what you are going thru. You seem like an optimistic person--that helps.

    No Scans yet
other than my original CT scan. My symptoms were just a really sharp pain on my lower right side. Docs all thought appendicitis but turned out to be the ugly tumor. Not really any of the classic symptoms other than an occasional low backache. Thanks for your support carolenk, this is such a scary road. It helps to know others have traveled it and I'm not alone. I've had several girlfriends go through breast cancer and all that goes with that and had no idea what they endured.

    Hi Marnel
Welcome to the Ovarian discussion board. When you find out the result from your doctor keep us informed. I also had a sharp pain in the lower right side of my groin area. I went to the ER and they thought they could be dealing with appendicitis. None of the tests showed that it was the appendix and they referred me to a gyn. He did several tests internal and external ultra sound and couldn't see anything. He then did a D and C and lapro. that is when he discovered the tumor on the right ovary and removed it and did a biopsy on my uterus. They both came back as cancerous , then I was sceduled to see a gyn./onc. for a debulking surgery. When everything was all said and done I was diag. with uterine cancer, ovarian cancer and appendix cancer. All three were primary and independent from each other. I am doing wonderful it has been 13 months since my last chemo treatment. Hoping for good results for you Marnel. Hugs Sharon
