When do they do swallow test?

OK, need info from you all.
Surgery was thursday and Nicholas is progressing on track. I was told swallow test is 5 days after surgery. But they are counting from Friday as day 1? not day 2?
The swallow test is scheduled for tuesday, not mon...is this the norm?
He wants out of hospital so bad and I will advocate for him ONLY if it is in his best interest. So please let me know.

    Mine was 5 full days after my surgery

    My swallow test was 5 full days after my surgery, not counting the day of surgery. Or I guess the other way to say it, would be my sixth day in the hospital. However, when the test is done is really up to Nicholas' surgeon based on a number of indicators related to the healing process. I have an Ivor Lewis procedure and I was in the hospital for 12 days. I also wanted to get out of the hospital as quickly as possible but based on my personal experience and postings I have read here over the last couple of years, the hospital is the best place for him to be for a while. Better to allow a little extra time for healing than to have to deal with a leak.

    Hi Paul
    Good to know it is the 5th day after surgery and we are just counting wrong. I agree with better safe than sorry, sure as heck don't want to rush it and deal with a leak. His surgeon is back on monday so hopefully we get more info.
    Guess it's normal to get a bit antsy at this point. He has no more monitors or anything now just drainage tubes including the ng and feeding tube. So that in itself should make him happy, only 1 pole to drag for the walk!
    It is just difficult seeing him so miserable.
