Second neck dissection, of sorts.....

I am a week post surgery now to remedy the post treatment infection that I developed in my neck. After three weeks on antibiotics, my Dr had a CT done and saw that there was a rather large "sterile abcess" in my neck. He performed pre-surgical biopsies of the area and they came back NED, thank God.
I am now recovering from what was basically another neck dissection. The surgery definitely aggravated some nerves because I have some pretty rough pain now running down my neck and into my upper right shoulder. This was definitely worse than the neck dissection.
My Dr went ahead and sent some tissue in for biopsy but he said not to worry. Everything that he saw during surgery was indicative of simply the infection and since the biopsies the week prior were NED, no need to get excited.
I can't wait to get over this and hopefully be DONE with this once and for all and get on with my life. It has been a long nine months.
Will keep posting as things progress.

    I know the feeling of wanting to move on....

    Though not as rough as you, my MD chose to leave the port inplace for 2 1/2 years....so glad when I finally got "deported"...

    It's indicative of the mess we are in
    at the time of treatment when these large complications are viewed with relief. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Can you swallow yet???????
