Hello,

After a battle with UPSC (uterine Papillary Serous Carcinoma) I find I also have papillary thyroid cancer and after much testing will undergo surgery soon. I have been reading the posts here, and wonder, is anyone being treated in Philadelphia at HUP?

Hi MinnieJan,

Sorry to hear that you were diagnosed. I was treated for papillary thyroid cancer at both Cooper Hospital in Camden and HUP in Philly. I had two surgeries. I went to HUP for my second surgery because my Cooper doctor said Dr. Douglas Fraker was a fantastic surgeon. I had my lymph node dissection at HUP December 2010 and was out of surgery in an hour and 15 minutes. However my thyroidectomy was done at Cooper Hospital by Dr. Reid (she is awesome) and it took 6 and a half hours because they also took 40 lymph nodes that the cancer had spread too. I apparently had cancer for at least a year and a half before I was diagnosed. I would recommend either doctor. Dr. Lisa Reid is really personable and Dr. Fraker has that "omnipotence" air about him but he did a good job.
Hope this helps! Goodluck

Hi Celeste,

Thanks for the information. I had surgery last Wednesday at HUP, about 2 hours. I went to Dr. Fraker's associate, Dr. Kelz. She was wonderful, very personable and thorough. I have had this papillary cancer over a year, it was diagnosed on a PET scan prior to surgery for Uterine Papillary Serous Carcinoma in Dec of 2010. The first endocrinologist I went to in Paoli in January 2011 said the 5 polyps were too small to biopsy, but six months later I had another scan and went to an endocrinologist at Penn (where I should have started) and was immediately diagnosed. Just waiting for the results of the surgical biopsies. We are pretty confident it has not spread. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

I was treated by a Dr. from U of Penn. He completed my TT and Right and Left Radical Neck dissections. Wonderful Dr - very experienced, very thorough, and was great to me. Actually may have to see him again, as I may have a recurrence in a couple small lymph nodes. I can give you his name if you like.

Can I ask you who your oncologist is at HUP?
