Seeking Oncologist Recommendation in Chicago for SCLC

Hello, I am new to this side of the boards. (My father has esophageal cancer so I am usually over "there"). Now my husband's father was recently diagnosed with extensive small cell lung cancer which has metastasized to his bones. He just had his 2nd round of chemo. (I believe it is Cisplatin and another chemo that starts with an E, I cannot recall the name).
We are hoping to put our minds at ease that he is going through the right course of treatment by getting a second opinion. Are there any highly recommended oncologists that are known in the Chicago area for this type of cancer? Thanks in advance for your help.

Cancer treatments tend to be protocol driven. I have a version of small cell. The closest to it is SCLC. I had the Cisplatin and Etoposide. And was then recommended to have preventative whole brain radiation.

The National Cancer Institute has the protocol laid out for SCLC. A second opinion is good. I got one after my chemo, but ended up with pretty much the same response. It was just laid out differently.

I was fairly healthy at the time of chemo, but it still kicked my butt. Make sure to get all the anti-nausea meds ready..for take home, and if possible have them dripped prior to getting the chemo.

A lot of oncologist are part of a US wide chain of clinics. If you really want a second opinion look for someone outside of the parent clinic.

Try CTCA in Zion. The call is free. They specialize in complicated cases. I was treated at CTCA and had tremendous success. Same chemo as above with radiation and no surgery. It"s worth a look in your area. www.cancercenter.com

Thank you Alan. Glad to hear you have had success. My in-laws actually did contact CTCA and were very interested in going there, however they did not accept their insurance.
    Thanks again.

Good to hear from other people here. He has had a tough time with chemo as well. Definite ups and downs. Thanks again!
