I have a concern about this site and the safety of its users. We had a women in our state recently shot an intruder one week after she lost her husband to cancer. It made national news. On the news tonight they stated the motive of the intruder was pain medication. I had brought this topic up several months ago with William on a private message.
Please if you are taking significant pain medication be cautious about disclosing your name and location. Private messaging would be the safest way to share information about pain control if you are currently on the medication. This is the reason I did not give my name for several month on this sight. Not that I didn’t want to be open, I was just concerned about this type of issue. It is no longer a concern as my husband has not had any pain medication for over 9 months. I’m just asking that you please be aware, just like you are walking in a parking lot. Pay attention to your surroundings. There are lots of people reading this blog and not posting.

    That makes so much sense! I can't recommend posting email addresses in the public forum either.

    Take note of BirdieQueen's warning. Those are valid points.

    Thanks for the warning, I definitely never would have thought of that. On the day that Greg died the hospice nurse destroyed all of his narcotic pain meds while another hospice person - I think it was the social worker - watched. She ripped the patches apart and poured the liquid oxycodone in a jug with some special solution in it. They told me it was a law to do this. Maybe it differs from state to state but I thought it was a good idea so I wouldn't have to deal with it. Now I KNOW it was a good idea for more reasons.

    I read a full page newspaper article about that incident in the papers here in Australia. But I had no idea it was over getting the pain medication. That's dreadful.

    Very bad guys
    I lost a sister to breast cancer over 20 years ago. She spent her last 2 or 3 weeks at home at my parents' house in SW Florida with a Dilaudid pump, and her oncologist warned us to be careful when picking up refills and take round-about routes home from the pharmacy, because the bad buys had been known to lurk around pharmacies and follow people home who had just picked up such prescriptions. Uneblievable!

    There must be a special place in Hell for these folks
    I had heard that it is always good to have someone stay in the deceased's home and the close relative's homes during the funeral if addresses are listed in the obituary. But just assumed that was burglars looking for easy access.

    A Sad Commentary...
    It did turn out well, due to the "proactive stand" of the potential victim.

    And not to be taken as a Conservative gun nut, because although I have an air rifle and a 22 Cal rifle, still... "When you need help in seconds, the police are minutes away."
    Just remember, someone under radiation and chemo is not the best person to be handling firearms...
