Will have my 1st follow-up CT scan tomorrow after left kidney was removed in October. Recovery from surgery has been great. Hoping and praying for good results from test.

Fingers crossed for you Bob. I'm about 4 weeks from having my first and I imagine it's a time when most of us get nervous. Good chance yours will be fine and that we'll all be celebrating with you very soon.

Won't hear the results for a couple of weeks more than likely. Going to the Mouse House in Florida with grand children this next week, then to Doctor when we return.

Doug,

That first one garners the most anxiety, its good that you have plans to keep your mind busy. I visited Mickey, Donald, and the rest almost 40 years ago (spring break 1972), man how time flies. Enjoy yourself and don't forget its okay to get a little goofy while you're there. Here's hoping the NED fairy pays a visit on your return.

Have fun,

Gary

Talked with urologist office this morning concerning my first follow-up CT of Chest, Abdomen and Pelvis.
NED NED NED!!!!!!
Now I feel more like a survivor and fighter. Thank everyone for all your prayers and support, It really helped me through this. I only hope I can help someone else as much as all of you have helped me.

My next CT is in three months. But positive thinking from now on!

Now,off to Florida with family for a week to celebrate.

Doug,

CONGRATS on the news!!! Now things can return to "normal" for awhile at least. It should make your trip much more enjoyable. The next time it will be a little easier, I promise.

Hip hip hooray indeed,

Doug,
Great news. Now enjoy life for the next three months. We seem to live in three-, six- and eventually 12-month increments here and some day we will reach iceman's enviable status in the survivor's club.

Mike

Hey Doug:

Hope your enjoying your trip... The weather is grand and I expect you to be waving when you fly in over my house... I live about an hour from Orlando.....Grats on the NED!!! My next checkup isn't until March and I am already thinking about it.... but :) If you can try to check out Harry Potter land at Universal studios...it is absolutely amazing, the castle is full size and seeing it from the horizon is something you must see . ENJOY

Happy New year !!!

We have just returned home from a fantastic 8 day trip to Orlando theme parks with Daughters family. Enjoyed all the shows and rides with Grandsons 3 1/2 years and 9 months old. A lot of walking and did get tired at times but was well worth it to see the looks on those boys faces. (Iceman, rode no coasters.)It was a great celebration of the New Year and my first NED. (Almost 3 months post surgery.) Hoping for all good reports this year and to watch those boys faces for many more years. This is what its all about.

HAPPY 2012 TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!

Can't believe it is 3 months already! See. NTI. NOTHING TO IT!!!!! Keeps me pumped. Lots of tests and another biopsy this week for me. It is all about recognizing good things in a potentially compromising situation. Keep up the enthusiasm!!!!!

NED = No evidence of disease - the all-clear we all want to hear. No way you could have guessed it! RCC is so unpredictable we should never be complacent but NED is the best news we can get at any point in time. Happy New Year - many NEDs - to everyone.

Doug,

Welcome back, isn't it amazing how a little thing like cancer changes your life's priorities to the important things like family and friends. Glad you got the NED before the trip so you could fully enjoy it.

Thanks to all for all the well wishes!!!

Two doctor visits today. Urologist said things look good, is going to watch cysts on other kidney, believes will be ok, but semed to detect concern in his voice.~~~~~~ Next CT scans will be at the end of April. Then every 6 months hopefully.

ENT visit for sinus infection that still has not completely cleared up. Back on antibiotics and ordered some kind of medicine from California(????????) Just can't get the sinus problem that started all of this to go away.....

Do you know if a cyst can change into cancer?l had them in both before my nephrectomy..mine started in 2004 but was told not to worry..so much for that they missed my cancer in 2010 and did not find it until Dec 2011. Hope you feel better with new sinus meds.

Thanks Doug

Yes - cancerous tumours start life as non-cancerous cysts, but many (most?) cysts remain non-cancerous. Doctors will usually speak of a "lesion", which is a general term, and another vague term - a "mass". Some cysts become huge without ever becoming malign (cancerous) so you don't need to worry so long as your cysts are kept an eye on over the years. Many people have numbers of cysts which are harmless. I'm in the same boat - in the Lone Kidney Club and hoping the cysts on the remaining kidney remain benign.

Well its one month away till my second follow-up CT's. Feeling good but already anxiously awaiting test.
I have been very honored this month,it being Kidney Cancer Awareness Month, to have had two articles written of my kidney cancer story. The last was in this past Sundays Rockdale and Newton Citizen Newspapers. After seeing the story I was contacted today by a previous acquaintance whose sister has just been diagnosed with kidney cancer and requested that I get in touch with her, which I have already e-mailed her. Hopefully I will be of some help to her and her family. I know that I will be suggesting she become part of our group.

If anyone would like the article written I'll be glad to send them to you.

Doug

Hi Robert,
Nice story. I did a Google for Newton Citizen and was able to read it online. Here is the link:

http://www.newtoncitizen.com/news/2012/mar/19/scan-for-sinus-surgery-leads-to-kidney-cancer/

Too bad it wasn't just a simple story about a day in the park with grandpa and the grandkids. I hope your second CT turns out okay and that you can be of help to the lady who has just been diagnosed with kidney cancer.
Regards,
Mike
