Severe Pain Months After Treatments Ended

Hi my name is Connie and my husband had Stage 3 Laryngeal Cancer. He did all his treatments (chemo and radiation)and his last treatment was on Aug. 31st. He went for his final biopsy and came back cancer free. He is still in severe pain and taking pain pills(tylenol 3 or Norco) and they dont seem to be having any effect on him in helping with the pain. IS THIS NORMAL? His ENT said his larynx is still inflamed and that when he did the biopsy he noticed his esopohgus (spelling?) was charred and peeling from the radiation. He is in more pain now than when he was going thru the treatments. He sees the Dr. again on Thursday and I just dont know what to do to help him.

Connie, I am so sorry to hear that your husband is suffering. Have you called doctor for stronger pain meds? They should be trying different kinds if what he has is not working. I am praying his pain is relieved soon. Call his doctor now, don't wait. Insist on another pain med.

    Happy to hear the NED.

just a reminder the radiation continues to work and be active for almost 2 months post treatment which would have been near the middle or end of october. for me it was 3 months post treatment where i felt and see the healing very slowly start in the baby steps.
Healing is so slow so the waiting gets frustrating. The healing game is never fast enough.
Everyone here heals differently for sure and most of your post sure is close to normal for most. Keep in mind it will most certainly get better just never fast enough
i pray his ENT is able to help in any way.

    Welcome to CSN.

Strongly agree with this post. Tylenol #3 is for mild-moderate pain only. He needs help, immediately. And you need to go back often, even every day, until he gets relief. There are plenty of very good medication protocals for severe pain. They work. You can see many such if you just read down through a number of posts below this thread. Be nice, but be insistant. Continued severe pain is not acceptable.

    Best regards
