    Yes
I read your profile before answering and I don't know all of your hubby's situation but I too was dx with Stage 3 rectal cancer and had many blasts of radiation in the butt. Did he have lots of radiation too?
Between that, and the J-pouch and the resection and the transanal flap, I thought I would finally be out of the woods, but now a year later, I still sometimes have almost unbearable pain. For me what helps is an icepack between the legs and 1 or 2 pain meds.
It is hard, esp. because I thought it was over.
But this is what works for me and I hope maybe it can help you.

Thank you tommycat. Yes his are not at all frequent but last night woke him from his sleep. He did have a lot of radiation. The pain subsided after a hot bath. He just fine this morning.

    Pain
It took me about two years after surgery before it was all better. I'd lay there at night and it would just throb with pain and hurt so bad. Glad he is feeling better.

    Mine wasn't rectal cancer
but the Folfox caused an anal fissure, which was excruciatingly painful. That might be another consideration (and easily examined for.

Unfortunately, the fissure stayed until about 5 weeks after I stopped chemo. OUCH!!!

    Fissures
I too got fissures after my ileostomy takedown. It did not heal until I had an infection and a permanent ileostomy. Hopefully they will figure out what the pain is all about and come up with a remedy. But pain is the worst!
