5FU Question

I've been on Oxaliplatin and 5FU for 9 treatments, 6 of which included the pump for slow infusion of the 5FU. At the 7th treatment my Onc changed to an quick injection of 5FU following my 2 hour infusion of the Oxaliplatin. On the eight treatment I had severe chills and shaking for about a hour and very lethargic for several days later. I had a similar but less acute (chills but no shaking) following the 9th treatment. Has anyone taken the 5FU by quick injection and if so what were the results? Any comments will be appreciated.

My husband did a cycle but I
My husband did a cycle but I was not aware of quick infusions.
I know that chills is usually a good reason to be seen by dr asap. Was that happening while you were still in the chemo clinic? If your medical team is not aware of this I would tell them right away.
I do know that every treatment my husband got it was different. One time he would have a very easy time of it and others it would knock him right down. Good luck with all your future treatments, may they all be easy for you. God bless you.

    My husband
has gotten a quick infusion of 5FU at the end of his chemo treatment from the beginning. However, it is not the full dose that he receives through the pump. He hasn't noticed any symptoms like you mention. Is your onc giving you the full 46 hour dose at one time?

    Push
I'm thinking that they called it a push because I got that too however don't remember the chills. Let your doctor know.

I too would get the 5FU push
I too would get the 5FU push with the oxy and would feel horrible about two days later, like I was coming down with the flu. My WBC became very low and I had to self-inject daily neupagin (sp?)so I could continue treatment.
Curious to hear what his onc will say.

    5FU Push
Hi: I am on oxaliplatin + irenotecan + 5FU pump. My oncologist wouldn't give me the "push" 5FU before the 5FU 2day pump went on because of the reactions some people had to it. So I don't get it, just the 5FU pump for 2 days.
