    Banged Up, But Doing Better
    Hey Gang,

Thanks for the concern Pepe:-) It's been another rough week, but I am feeling much better today.

The last few chemo cycles have really kicked my a$$. The doc switched me from FOLFOX to FOLFIRI (with Avastin for both). She didn't want me to have the potential to go through the bad reaction I had with Oxaliplatin after the last time.

About a week ago, I started feeling transient knifing pain in my right upper back, under the shoulder blades. I thought I may have pulled a muscle. The pain got worse and more frequent as the days went on. I could be sound asleep and wake up yelping. This is on top of barely being able to eat with nausea. I was able to keep most liquid down though.

I finally had enough and called my sister and she and my niece drove to the beach Thursday night and grabbed me, the dog and my car. Sis and I went to the ER at Penn and my niece took the dog and my car to my sister's place.

They put me in the ER and figured out pretty quickly I had blood clots in both lungs. They couldn't do much about the existing clots, but I started feeling better for some reason anyway. Now I get to inject myself twice a day with Lovenox to forestall any future reoccurances.

I spent three nights in the hospital. 2 in the ER (like last time there were no rooms available) and the last in a room in the "Transitional Unit", which is where they put people that are close to checkout or recovering from minor procedures.

I got discharged Sunday and am going to stay at my sister's place until chemo Friday. The dog is happy here since my niece has a dog he is buddies with. It also will keep my family from freaking out that I am alone this week. My girlfriend came up and stayed over last night. I took her and my sister and bro-in-law out for dinner. Originally my gf and I had a balloon ride in Lancaster (Amish Country) set up to see the fall leaves on Sunday morning :-(

    Take care y'all!

    Oh Ray
You gotta do what ya gotta do (balloon ride next year). So sorry you are having a rough time. Can they do something different about the nausea, or unless that was from the blood clots. But if the nausea is from chemo, they need to try something else. Glad you have a lot of support. You need that right now. Take care.

    The new normal?
Sounds like you have been having LOTS of fun the past couple of weeks. Your story sounds a lot like my husband's: bad reaction to oxi, switch to Folfiri, blood clots, Lovenox. Your clots were a lot more serious, however, since Jake's were just in a varicose vein that I guess is not dangerous. Hope things start going much better for you. Once Jake was off Oxi and Avastin, he stopped making frequent visits to the emergency room. So glad for that! He just finished his 12th infusion so is now heading for maintenance chemo, probably 5FU and Erbitux. Think that might be a little easier to tolerate.
