Hello, Everyone, haven't really posted in a while. Since, I am still battling with alot of depression; I am trying to stay away from the cancer boards and trying to think positive. I feel that thinking about cancer everyday doesn't help. Plus I'm dealing with normal life issues like relationship stuff so that doesn't help with the depression and stress either. You folks that are married and have kids are lucky, one less stressor in your life. :(

I admire those of you who have taken the position of mentors for the new comers and are on this board everyday;no need to add names we know who you are. God bless you guys.

Anyway, I first just wanted to say that I'm sorry for those of you who have recently had news of reaccurence and are starting the fight again. My prayers and thoughts are with you!!!!!

Secondly, I am roughly about 1 year and 4 months post treatment for Tonsil cancer, HPV+. Everything seemed to be going good, but 3 weeks ago was laying in bed and felt a pea sized lump on the right side of my neck where I had the surgery. Went to the ent and they said it most likely was scar tissue; but since I was up for my 6 month pet/ct he said lets just take a look. As a side note: This was only my 4th Pet/CT: 1 pre diagnosis and 3 post diagnosis. So I think my frequency of scans is lower than the norm here; but I am ok with that. I'll stick with the every 6 months. Well to make a long story short had the test done on Thursday OCT. 27th and saw the ENT today. NED!!!!!!! He said the scans looked great and the lump was either scar tissue or calcium build-up. Nothing to indicate cancer. So, he said go back and live your life another 6 monhts at a time. Amen to that.

As far as eating, dry mouth, weight gain, dental:

I can eat what ever I want; even eating spicy foods such as chicken wings, salsa but mild of course. I can eat subs but need to wash it done with water; but that's better than soda. Dry mouth: I still get dry mouth when I sleep: By I can sleep a solid 8 hours as long as I don't drink to much fluids before bed. Luckily my teeth are doing good and didn't have to have any pulled, so i chew xylitol gum alot during the day and this helps with saliva production. Also, I brush with Previdnet 5000 1.1 flouride 3 times a day, use act for dry mouth flouride rinse 3 times a day, and try to use flouride tray2-3 times a week. last dental exam was good; and x-ray showed good bone density. I don't drink any soda or apple juice or orange juice anymore, too acidic for the teeth. Weight has gotten back to about 185lbs; I was 195 before and got down to 160 by the end of treatment. Overall, besides the depression, doing pretty good!! :)

Anyway, God Bless and hang in there for the newbies; you can do it!!!!!! :) Big Huggs for everyone!!

Charles

    Good for you Charles
Hi Charles and congrats on the great results. Cancer pre-occupation can get the best of us sometimes and once bitten it's virtually impossible to disassociate oneself because of the everyday bombardment of the disease around us. You seem to be handling things well so keep it up.

Linda, best of luck on the test run. Sure wish it was a Porche or Masarati instead.

Congrats! has a wonder ring tone.

Sorry to hear about your depression rutt. I to agree this is so part of the normal reaction to so very many. I would suggest you see your GP if you have not already. Be aware that depression is a chemical imbalance and can be balanced very easy with simple meds.

Love your attitude and daily regiment for dental care. I would suggest to add in a waterpic. It has so helped me in to ways with the wonderful cleaning it does before brushing and I use warm water and helps sooth the gums.

    Survivor Charles NED.....

    Hey Charles
Howdy Charles, great to hear from you. Sounds like you are doing great. Excellent news on your scan too. Enjoy those relationship issues Charles. I don't have any, because I don't have any relationships, ha. Better to have fought/loved and lost I think.

    best, Hal

These were the stories I wish I had many years ago when I went thru my war with day battles. They will help you maintain a Positive Mental Attitude.

Prayers for you as you start your rads.

    CONGRATS MY FRIEND
I love NED, and it looks very good on you. Can relate to the depression while I was going through treatment. It has been a non issue as I have eased back into my life and have become productive again.

I also agree with over exposure to the board as anyone who is used to seeing me here has definitely seen lees of me in the last 3 weeks or so. I am pretty much resolved to congratulate the NEDer's and just lurk once in the AM.

I wish you the best, and the depression will get better.

    Best!!

    NED
I love NED and know we all do.
Congrats Charles. I know all the little things take us to the dark side and the committee in our heads say to be afraid. Always good to find out that lump or whatever is nothing to worry about.
Sorry for your relationship woes. I live alone and have no boyfriend except an old love from my teen years who sends me cards and presents and believes in me. My friends are my support and couldn't do this without them.
Don't know if I would have the stomache at 61 to deal with a troubled time with a lover of the opposite sex but good luck to you for sure.
Glad you are on it with your teeth. My dentist has made sure since I was diagnosed to help me with all my mouth issues.

    I don't
I don't want to be doom and gloom but please keep checking the bump. Neither of my cancers showed up in the PET Scan. Hopefully it is nothing but if it does not go away or gets bigger insist on a biopsy.

    you're doing the right thing
Congrats on your scan! positive energy rules

Sometimes reading this board can get depressing or can also make you feel like you're not alone in your struggles. Always seek help professionally when dealing with depression. You're friends and family can only take so much pressure. When you talk to a mental healthcare professional or counselor they do not take on the personal baggage and bring them home.

    :(
Thanks for busting my bubble. This is why I am hesitant to visit this board.

However thank you for your concern, my ENT/surgeon said I had surgery there and I had radiation which will cause scar tissue, calcium build up, etc..I have faith in my doctor; but obviously we are keeping an eye on it.

P.S. Every cancer is different. That is why I prefer to only comment to similiar situatuions as mine! (Tonsil cancer/HPV+)
