Bone mets after Thyroid Cancer

My mom has bone mets after Thyroid cancer. Does any one have it or does any one know of someone with same condition? She has had a hip replacement, she has done chemo, radiation but the cancer has spread now to other parts of her bone. We are all so devastated and try to cope but it's so hard. She is in pain constantly so she takes pain killers and tries to sleep but she can't until someone massages her bone pain. I don't think this will go away, I don't think bone mets is curable and will only get worse and worse. I just wanted to know if anyone is going through the same thing. thanks for listening.

I am sorry for your mom's pain and suffering. Unfortunately, doctors let patients with thyroid cancer go on believing that this cancer is not worthy of attention until it goes too far. I have thyroid cancer mestastasis too. I have began experiencing pain in my arm. I saw an orthopedic dr. recently and he sent me for an MRI of my neck and arm. I was curious and looked at the cd that they gave me to deliver to the doctor and it shows white spots in arm and images of skull as well. I have been so worried. I mentioned this to a new onco that I saw the other day and he says that thyroid cancer don't usually mestastasize to the bones. I don't know what to believe. Just the suggestion of the thought that this cancer has spread to my bones is really worrying me also. My new onco is talking about getting me into a clinical trial as I have exhausted the chemo that I was on. You need to try and get your mom back into some type of chemo or radiation. I noticed my arm pain has started since I stopped chemo. I hope this helps her. I will be praying for you and your mom. Keep us informed. Good luck and God bless.

DO NOT GET DISMISSED over your symptoms
Thank you for responding AND PLEASE PLEASE fight if you feel something is wrong. My mom's story is unbelievable. She was misdiagnosed by an awful doctor for 2 years telling her/us that she had acid reflux and that is why her voice changed. I did some research on my own and it lead me to believing that she had either Thyroid Cancer or Lung Cancer. I called the doctor who dismissed me saying he knew what he was doing and there's no cancer. After fighting with my mom's GP, he sent us to another specialist who found the cancer in 1 visit after putting the camera down her throat. The rest is bad history. Doctor's say the best cancer to get is Thyroid cancer as it is curable when caught early. BUT my mom's was not caught early and it went to her bones. My mom's pain is stabbing like pain and I'm not saying you have the same thing at all, I am saying though to tell your doctor you are worried and want him to listen to you. Tell him my mom's story if it helps. Thank you for writing Veronica. I honestly don't think chemo can do anything for my mom but we will find out more on Nov 9th. They are giving her Gometa for bone regeneration but I don't know if this will work. My mom is just an amazing sweet wonderful incredible loving and wish I could use every good word in the dictionary woman and it is breaking my heart to watch her suffer. I pray for you and please also let me know how you're doing. The best of luck to you and god bless you as well. DO NOT LET THE DOCTORS DISMISS YOU BECAUSE you can be saved from what my mom is going through. xoxo Tina

Thank you so much. I am so sorry for what your mom has gone through. Some doctors are real jerks. I believe my cancer could have been caught sooner as well. They told me I had asthma. I had been believing this since the late 90's. It just so happens, I went to the ER for a nebulizer in 2009. They gave two doses of it and I still couldn't breathe. After being there all day, I asked the doctor could I go home. That's when he told that he didn't think asthma was doing this. In fact, he had done a ct scan and it nodules in my thyroid. I told him I knew this, and I had a biopsy that didn't show conclusive. I was told that it was probably an infection. He refused to let me go home and said that they were going find what was going on. I hadn't even given thought to cancer. When they diagnosed me, it was already mestastasized to my lungs and lymph nodes. I was stage 4. Now, I'm being dismissed at every turn. But this doctor I saw earlier this week, seems to want to at least try to find out what's going on. But I don't know how long that will last.

Like you said, they tell us that thyroid cancer is the best cancer to get. That's crazy. It's the worse. Everybody tell you they don't know what to do for you. How does that sound? What hope do you have to go on, when the doctors tell you, you can live with it, knowing all the while, that it is still growing and mestastasizing into other places in your body.

You keep fighting for your mom too. I hope the Gometa will work for her. I know how hard it is to watch your mom suffer. I took care my for five years, while struggled with alzheimers. Stay strong and know that God is on our side. I am praying for you.

hate the word metastasizing which is greek origin as am I :(
Hello Veronica, can it be that my mom's story and yours is so similar (the misdiagnosis)and I wonder how many other people are going through this same thing, meaning that doctor's dismiss the wonderful cancer of Thyroid when it is probably the fastest one to move on from lymph nodes to lungs etc... This pisses me off to say the least. My mom was stage 4 as well by the time we were certain this is what was causing her vocal to become paralyzed. She is not doing well especially today she has massive pain in her throat so I am freaking out. She is suffering so very much. I am sorry about your mom as well as my grandma had Alzheimers and this is another awful disease. Why is there so much pain and suffering. Sorry I'm babbling. I hope the doctor that is following you now takes things very serious!! Sometimes I feel like calling media and just screaming my head off about the crappy (sorry) health system. I know doctors are not gods but I find they don't take every precaution to find the reason for the pain etc... I don't know what else to do but pray and keep asking God not to make my mom suffer as much as she is. I don't want to let her go but I don't want her to suffer this much. My dad is devastated, we all are, tears come every so often. I am praying for you and wish you the best. Please keep in touch whenever you need to and want to. xoxo Tina

    I was diagnosed with thyroid
I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 1978 only after I was put on a phych ward. I was told my crying, losing weight and other symtoms were all emotional. The good thing was my physc dr called in an internalist that discovered a mass behind my vocal box. When they operated 2 out of 3 lymp nodes were cancerous. I was placed on meds and then in 1999 cancer returned in the thyroid area. I was given a 'clean-up" at that time and my parathyroids removed. Once again 2 out of 3 lympnodes were cancerous. I get a radioactive iodine test done yearly and all is good. However, I just had my finger amputated for chondrosarcoma. It was a ray amputation with entire finger, knuckle and bone to wrist removed. Doctors maintain it was not from the thyroid cancer but also admit they done know what cause this rare cancer.
