Up all Night

My brain doesn't seem to know that it is night. SOme nights I am awake all night until 5am...so I am grateful that I go to work from 3-6 so I can get some sleep. I seem to average 4-6 hours and that is all. Did anyone else have this problem and what did you do? I've already tried, teas, and lavendar, and relaxing tapes, all the Guru stuff~nothing helps...just tell me it ends in 6 months or so. I hate the idea of a sleeping pill, but now that I am back to work I have to get some sleep. Idea's sisters, idea's....thanks, Sinee

    Up all night
I can relate to this. I go to bed between 8:30 and 9 PM, more often then not I'm wide awake at 2 AM. Before I started chemo I would have bouts of insomnia, but now this is the norm for me. I get up between 4 and 5 AM to be at work for 6:30. Like you I hate the idea of a sleeping pill.

    Benadryl
I take 1 tablet almost every night before bed. My problem is staying asleep and this seems to help...no more waking up at 2 or 3. I did mention it to my gyn and pcp and did not get negative feedback about it so am continuing to take it since it works.

    Good luck,

    Well aren't you the night
Well aren't you the night owl? LOL... sorry buddy no help from me, my sleep is sporadic. I doze off around 10 o'clock and wake up every couple of hours. I do seem to fall back to sleep though. Broken sleep is better then no sleep I guess. Jennifer has a good idea benadryl always makes me sleepy and so does tylenol pm.

    Hugs my friend,

Geez, I thought I was the only Sister in PINK that
suffered from sporadic sleeping or insomnia. Its been a year since my last herceptin treatment, and 1 1/2 since my Taxol/Taxotere Carboplatin ended -- so why the last of sleep .. GRRR, UGHHHH .. hate this.

I must try the Tylenol pm -- hate to take any medication, however I am so tired of bumping into walls at 11:00 a.m.

Oh ... I miss getting 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep ...

Going to start up with my herbal tea sleeping 'tea' again .. that helps last winter --

    Happy sleeping to all.

    Up all Night
At my next to last chemo treatment yesterday (YAY!!), I mentioned to the doctor about the troubles sleeping. Suggested the Benadryl. Used it last night and had the best sleep in months.

I hope this info helps someone else find a way to get a restful night sleep.

I also wake up 2-3 times per night, I've been taking a melatonin (3 mg) and a generic sleep aid (walmart) that has the same ingredients as unisom, it's works well, I sleep right thru the night. Give it a try.

YES - having the same problem
Yes - I cannot believe how many people have this problem! I had my doctor give me a sleeping pill and I'm still up at 2 a.m. every night because it wears off. I just got an extended release version (yay!) so I'm hoping that helps. Once I'm up I can't fall back asleep either - it sucks! Give into to the meds - they will help you.

    Me too....same problem!
Sinee, please check with your doc and see if you can take Melatonin. It is a natural sleep aid. I asked my Onc and he said melatonin is fine. I take the 3mg. dose - it disolves and tastes like grape - and within 15 to 30 minutes I have deep restful sleep. Once in a while, I do wind up waking up again...but I blame it on the chemo and steroids.

Best wishes to you having a good nights sleep, dear!

    Hugs, Debbie

What time do you take your
What time do you take your Effexor? How many mg do you take? I take 75 mg, but not the ER (Extended Release). I've had to change the time of day I take it, so I can sleep at night. When I first started Effexor, the doc gave me 75mg of the ER. I didn't hear my hubby snore for two whole months! It was awesome! But I would doze off at work at 8:30 am. I started taking it before lunch, and I get pretty sleepy at night. And I don't feel 'hung over' in the morning. My good sleeping comes and goes. I can sleep through the night for a few weeks, then not worth a darn for a while.

Benadryl makes me nervous, unfortunately. I sleep good for the first couple of hours, then my heart races after that.

My doctor gave me a prescription for a sleeping pill, so, I take it when I feel I need it. It does help. Perhaps you should ask your doctor to prescribe something?

    Hope you get some sleep!

Oh me too. I go to bed at 11 but most nights its 2 or 3 before I fall asleep. Tylenol p.m. helps sometimes. Tried Unisom and it made me exhausted and groggy the whole next day. Going to try Benadryl too.

Ugh, I'm sorry. I had a big problem with insomnia also. I had tried ambien a few years ago during a bout with insomnia and did NOT like it. During treatment my oncologist have me a prescription for Restoril which really helped me out when I needed it. That's all that worked for me :(

    sleeping
I sleep in a split shift because I work 3rd shift. I sleep from 8am to about noon or 1 pm. Then I go to bed at 7pm and get up at 10pm to head off to work. It has been this way for years except for the few years I actually worked 1st shift. So generally I get 8 hours of sleep but not all at once.
