Should I be alarmed? stomach cramps - vomiting

About a month and a half ago while at work and after we all came back from lunch, I started getting cramps which progressively got worse over the next several until eventually I vomited several times. After that I was ok. At that time I thought I had just gotten some food poisoning.

Last Monday, it happened again. Not as long. But still cramping until I vomited.
And then again last night. However, I just had cramping and diarreah.

I have been eating a high fiber diet, with greek yogert, and fruits and vegestables, salads and nuts. I don't know if this has anything to do with it. I am a little concerned now that it has happened several times now.

I was due to have a PET scan done in June but due to insurance companies denial, and my ultimate battle, I did not get a scan, but finally am scheduled for a CT Scan on Tuesday. I did bring this up with my gyn/onc office but she didn't seem that alarmed about it but I guess given the fact that I was scheduling my CT scan that she probably thought that would clear up any issues that may or may not be there.

Now I don't know what exactly to eat and now my back and neck are sore from the cramping. Anyone have any advice?

Kathy

    Similar symptoms
When I first adopted an extremely high fiber diet, with tons of salads and fruits and vegetables, my system took a while to adjust. For a month or so, I would get occasional cramping and then diarrhea--particularly immediately following a meal that included, for example, a huge salad and then fruit for dessert. In time, my body adjusted; and I no longer have this problem. Are you taking a probiotic? I highly recommend the probiotic PB8, which has cured all of my digestive problems.

    Thanks Jill. I am not
Thanks Jill. I am not currently taking a probiotic. Is that found in yogurt? or is that in a pill form.

    Priobiotic capsules
Try a Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Trader Joe's, or Whole Foods and ask them for the PB8 probiotic. I take two capsules daily, which provide 14 billion good bacteria from a blend of eight different sources. Usually, this remedy will get your system in shape in about two weeks.

    Good luck.

    Great. I feel a little
Great. I feel a little relieved. I was getting worried. I hope this helps.
We just went to Whole Foods on Sunday. We will be going back on Saturday so I will look that up. In the meantime, I am getting my CT scan tomorrow. I will let you know how that goes.

I have to agree with Jill....roughage will do this to you. I as well take a probiotic and have to say still have some issues with cramping, especially after eating cabbage (raw).

Last week for approx 2 days had a lot of diarrhea, but by the 3rd day I was back to normal. Now thinking it could have just been a "bug", as few people around me have had some bad colds.

Good luck on your test...keep us posted!!

    Thanks Jan:

With yours and Jills replay and that PA not seeming that alarm, I am at ease. Also, one of our employees had some cramping too, so it could just be something that keeps passing around.

I will let you know about my CT results once I get them.

    Cramping/vomiting/diarrhea

You could have a virus--especially if other employees are suffering, too.
The other possibility is diverticulitis--aggravated by eating raw carrots, nuts or seeds. If you make a dietary change & use probiotics and still have symptoms, a colonoscopy is a good idea.

    After my CT

    Thanks Carolenk:

After my CT scan tomorrow, I am going to go get some probiotic and see if that helps. I believe I am due for a colonscopy. At my last one, they did indicate slight diverticulitis, so maybe thats inflammed and if so, maybe I will need an antibiotic.

I have been eating a lot of berries lately too and raw vegetables and salads with nuts on it.(All stuff I like).

    Thanks again for your input.

    another thing
Kathy, it might also be gallstones or gallbladder disease. Most people who have chemo get gallstones, although many do not know even know they have them. Mine did not show up on a CT scan, but on an abdominal ultrasound.

Go easy on those probiotics as they could aggravate this.
I bought asidophilus capsules (1 billion CFU, Propriettary Probiotic Blend, LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS & BIFIDOBACTERIUM LONGUM) and took just one of them. I got horrible diarreah and called my nutritionist right away. She said that I should just be eating yogurt for my probiotics, that probiotics taken in pill form can really aggravate an already delicate digestive system like mine. Maybe what is being suggested to you in this thread is a different supplement, but I just wanted to add this note of caution. When you are already having digestive issues (and throwing up sounds REALLY serious to me! My 1st thought was partial bowel obstruction.), I don't think buying OTC supplements and drugs is wise without a dietician reviewing your blood labs and current diet. I'm a strong believer in 'self care', but a strong UNbeliever in self-diagnosis and self-prescribing. When your body is functioning perfectly, you can experiment a little. But when you are obviously in some type of digestive distress, this is not the time to try this and try that. You need expert advice. No one else posting here seems all that worried about the symptoms you describe; but I am. It doesn't matter WHAT good food you put into your body if you throw it all up. You need to have your diet and all supplements reviewed by a nutrition professional experienced with working with cancer patients, especially if this is still happening to you. ((((hugs)))).

    Thanks for your input Linda.
Thanks for your input Linda. I am actually on my way in a bit to get my CT scan. Then if this continues, I will be making an appointment with my local PCP.

My only concern is that although no one thought I had cancer originally, my first appointment was for "bowel" problems and even though through colonoscopy, ultrasound, laparoscopy, etc., nothing was found but I ended up having it anyway.

I hope it is just a bug. I will let you know. (((hugs)))

    Thanks,

    Kathy
