Biopsy Results: Dysplasia.

I am a survivor of Stage II Laryngial Cancer, treated with radiation only. The radiation ended in August of 2010. Last week, a follow-up biopsy of the sub-glottis showed dysplasia. As it was explained to me, the cells were abnormal but NOT CLEARLY CANCEROUS. I have some throat and ear pain. The ENT said I do not have an ear infection. The pain would be considered sharp, if I had not been treated with radiation, but it is moderately mild when compared to therapy pain.

I am on a month of antibiotics and steroids. Then another biopsy. It is really tough to wait. I have my mind set to beat the tumor back once again. I have to get myself ready for treatment; and if the biopsy is normal, well I'll party.

Any comments? Rick.

    Interesting...
On my first go-round, many years ago, when the +HPV-16 SCC attacked, it caused dysplasia of my cervix...

Second go-round, it caused +HPV-16 SCC cancer of the oropharynx...

    TMI, sorry.

Sending positive thoughts for a NORMAL biopsy. Hang in there. Some dysplasias leave.

    Hello
for the last 6 days I am actually waiting for the results from my mom's biopsy from her tongue. 1 year ago she was diagnosed with stage 3 tonsil cancer with 1 lymph node. Had surgury and radiation,4 months afer finishing treatment her PET scan was all clear.now 3 months later again we are facing the unknown.....I am praying that the biopsy will be negative for cancer. Good luck to you as well, no cancer cells is a good news and hopefully the antibioticks will clear the rest of the abnormalities.

    Hi Joanna

Why is it taking so long for you to get the results of the biopsy, at Mayo Clinic I got my results the next day? There is nothing I hate more then the waiting game, I would call your doctor and tell them to get with the program. I hope when you do get the results they will be negative for any C just hang in there and keep positive.

    Wishing you the best

    Hi Nancy

That is what I am talking about; to me there is no need to play the waiting game. I hate when the doctors do that and there is no reason for it.

    Next Day
If it's under normal conditions, I can get mine back the next day by asking for a desk copy. They will provide me a copy and disk the same time they are available to the MD.

    Look for another doctor
I would start looking for another doctor and go for a 2nd opinion as soon as possible. Are you going to a major cancer institution like MD Anderson, Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins or a just local city oncology. My local city oncal man almost killed me I now go to MD Anderson.

    Good move
I don’t know much about either one of them but after hearing how you are treated I think you are making a good move.

    Wishing you well

    Options and Second Opinions
I really don't have any option about where I am treated. Please don't pursue this statement in this thread. Cancer treatment and finances deserves a discussion board of its own. The wait for test results is the very least of my worries. Waiting for test results is nothing when compared to worrying whether I can get enough pain meds to last a month. And that's not the biggest worry either; it's just the worry over an event that immediately in my future.
