I wanted to let everyone know that Bob's MIE surgery went very well - approximately 5 hours. He's currently in the surgical ICU until later today as beds become available on another floor. More details to follow---

Thank you for all your kind thoughts and prayers.

    Great News!!!
    Carol,

It is great to hear that Bob's surgery went well and he is about to be moved from ICU only one day after his operation. Sounds like he is doing great.

Prayers for a good swallow test and pathology report!!

    Thanks for the update!
    Hi Carol,

I am sure the waiting was hard, and you must be relieved with that part of the journey over! Glad to hear that Bob is doing well and that surgery was only five hours, that will go far for recovery of his lungs. Get some rest when you can, as many said to me this is a marathon not a sprint. Once you bring Bob home know that there are many caregivers on here, some who just went through what you are doing now that can help and offer suggestions.

Thanks again for the update and VERY pleased to hear all went well! Best to you both,

    Niki

    So glad the surgery went
So glad the surgery went well. Praying he will regain his strength fast. The future will be learning a lot of new eating and sleeping habits, but it gets easier as time goes on.
You and Bod remain in my thoughts and prayers,

    Brilliant!
So glad to hear that Bob's surgery went well, and was short as MIE's go. A 5 hour wait isn't a bad thing in an MIE ;)

I hope his recovery is quick and as painless as possible.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you also, Carol. We are here for *you* too!

    HwSING HOME!
Hi everyone. I just read everyone's posts following my MIE last week, and I think you all know how meaningful and emotional they were for me. We've all read and/or said it ourselves, but to feel such love and support from people who haven't even met me is moving beyond words.

I just met with my surgeon's team, and while they don't have hard copy orders yet the "official" word is that I'll be released to home today. That's a day earlier than he'd originally planned, which everyone here at the hospital says is a really good sign. Pain management hasn't been a problem and there are evidently no indications of infection or other medidal issues, so I choose to take it as a good sign, as well. I'll post an update when I get settled at home.

In the meantime, Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers, which appear to have helped! The only sword remaining hanging over my head is the path reports.

    Best
