Tired?

Good morning everyone. Quick question. I just finished a round of cisplatin and 5fu and I am just so tired. I have been wanting to sleep for the last three days. Is this to be expected or should I be a little concerned? I can get up and do a few things like eat and shower but then become so drained. I am hoping this doesn't last too long. Any advice would be great.

Thank you!

    Tired
I had my first chemo infusion on 8-8-2011, the sencond on 9-12-2011, the 3rd will be some time in October, then it will be a course of radiation. I receive Cisplatin, Toxetore (sp) and wear a 5FU pump from monday to friday when it is removed.I don't seem to be tired, and sleep well thru the night..I try to stay active thru the day, but not to the point of over doing, I eat well, plus snacks in between, and drink at least 2 1/2 to 3 qts of water to stay hydrated. Not sure if any of this helps, as they will tell you here everyone is different. Maybe being tired is just your body's reaction to the chemo, if it continues to be an issue, I would call the doctor to discuss.

    Blessings and light

Are you drinking enough water? Check with medical professionals Monday.

    Hydration
As mentioned, that for sure is key...

I also had Neulasta Injections the second week of each cycle to help regenrate blood counts in the bone marrow.

Like the others above, I also had three rounds of Cisplatin, Taxotere and 5FU.

Buy also rest is always good when everything else is in check. Your body is in fighting mode, that takes a lot of energy.

    Best,

    sleep
The first week out of treatment Jim slept almost 24/7 the following week he would stay up about 3 hours in the evening before going back to bed and wake up sporadically during the day. Third week he would be up a few hours in morning, take a long nap and stay up until 11PM. This past week he stays up all day with an ocassional short nap. Still has a stamina issue though. If he exerts much he has to nap and rest.

Difference: He is older than you, his chemo and radiation were done concurently. And the mantra here is, "Everyone is different."

    Praying for renewedenergy and strength.

    Thank you
I have all ready completed my concurrent chemo and 35 rads on aug. 9. They did warn me that this chemo round will reintroduce some of the side effects I was experiencing at the end of rads. I just wasn't prepared for how tired I would feel. I was just starting to feel string again and now it's upsetting I am having such a set back.

    Thank you all.

    Normal
If you just finished and have two weeks to recoup, I believe that what you are experiencing is normal (it was for me anyways)...

By the time you are strong and yourself again, it'll be time for the next round.

Just remember you are tougher than the cancer....everything you are feeling and going through, it's going through times 10.

Get rest, keep focused and stay positive...you're the winner...

    Hi Cathelen
I did my chemo once a week and every time I was very weak and tired so I just stayed in bed all that day. I agree with the others here you need to make sure you stay hydrated, as that by its self will cause a lot of problems.

    Wishing you well

    Set-back
I agree what you are going through sounds about normal; your body is taking a real beating. Remember it is one step forward and two steps beck sometimes but in the end you will be the winner.
