**** I Have Been Deported~ After the Fact & Updated****
I was supposed to get it out around March of this year, but at that time my surgeon only did it at the surgey center and putting me out.
As I hadn't met my total out of pocket at that time, I decided to wait.
Now that I've had the PET and other expense's I called last week...he now gives you a choice. In his office under local or the surgery center..I chose his office.
Here's a video I found of the procedure...LOL, kind of wishing I hadn't watched it now.

She likes to leave them in for two years...I presume the greatest or most potential period for a recurrence.
Pain meds, LOL...I remember now, he's the surgeon that prescribed 90 oxicotin or percocets for me when he installed it....looks more painful coming out, LOL...but I was under when he installed it.

Good luck. Had mine done in the Hospital, and was without any suffering at all. Glue patch used for stitches. Hope all goes as well as is possible. If we don't ever hear from you again, well...well...well...either way you can say goodbye to the flushings- LOL! Know it'll be a breeze for you. Gonna take it home with you? Seems I heard of someone who did. Did take the G-tube, but not my Port.

The outpatient procedure......
didn't hurt at all. Just a local, and a small incision, a sew job, bandaged, and that was it. After he took it out, he asked if I wanted it and I was surprised as to how long the cord was in the vein in my shoulder. No reason to keep it. I had mine removed in March of 2010 after treatment ended in June of 09. I now have an = sign that my wife teases me about....("left armpit equals chest hair") and even now I have a irritation/itchy feeling that I just take the palm of my right hand, and rub for a few seconds, and it goes away. Just something else to expect, Brother. Oh....and if it's on your left side, be prepared to get some type of cushion to place on your seatbelt while driving. It will take a few weeks to heal completely, and you need to keep things from irritating the former port area.

I knew I had heard a few on here had it done as an in office outpatient procedure and it wasn't a big deal.
Also, it's on my right as I had a injury that dislocated my left shoulder (collar bone popped out) several years ago that required a surgery. This left me sporting a pretty good sized scar there already.
I just might ask for it, LOL...thought has already entered my mind. That way the next time I'm at the chemo center, I can ask the nurses to flush my port...and then hand it to them, LOL...
