Speed dating has nothing on my Oncologist

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
My first visit after radiation commencement actually into my second week lasted 3min 37 sec I know because i use a dicta phone so I can transcribe and keep an actuate record of what i am told and have to do. I have learnt nearly all I am to expect from here and reading all my literature.
I am feeling a tad peeved .
oh PS she is on leave for the next two weeks so i will be seeing a colleague of her's.

    Seams like when they are ready to go on vacation you need to get out of there way so they don’t run over you….. Good to see you doing well.

    RADS MD
    I only had a few follow-up visits with mty RADS MD the fist year....I always asked him if he needed his car payment already....

    My ENT and Chemo MD have always been the most active with my treatments and follow-ups....even during RADS, the techs were way more involved than the actual MD.

    I saw my radiologist
    I saw my radiologist oncologist once a week through rads. I'm pretty sure he may have spent a little more than 3 minutes and 37 seconds with me each time. Lol My RO was my follow up guy, not my ENT. I have my next appt with my RO on September 2nd.

    Wow, that is fast. Jim saw his radiation doc every week during treatment. He was even available during the week if we had questions or problems, which we did several times. He always sat down and took his time asking if we had questions or concerns. When I read about others experience with their doctors I am exta thankful for the doctors and nurses at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute.

    While the surgeon was only around for the operations (tonsillectomy and neck dissection), he was fine. But the med onc was always available and had lots of time even when we were not in the middle of chemos. And the rad onc(s) seem to set aside a half hour just to talk. We saw them nearly every day during the actual tanning time and there was usually two and occasionally more observing. Perhaps this is the difference between a pure for-profit and a university teaching hospital where we went. Even the other day when we saw the rad onc for a six-month visit we had plenty of time to talk about the Mexican baseball league. (I am presently in Mexico working and he spent some years here as a kid)

    All in all, Georgetown University hospital was a really good experience - not that I am recommending you get cancer to prove it, of course. Doug

    the head of my team was the surgeon ( and I turned down surgery) so I never saw much of him during treatment. I saw him first and he gave me the details of my cancer and treatment options. My chemo doc I only saw for my treatments (7) and once after. My radiation doc, Dr. Suddiqui, whom I loved, I saw once a week and ran into many times when I would be going to and from treatment. He always gave of his time for questions. My two follow ups I have met with him for about 30 minutes each time. I decided to just see him for the rest of my follow ups. If I find I have bad news, I will agree to see the other docs. I went to the James of OSU in Columbus and all were fabulous.
    I have to tell myself that we all are consumers and we can call the shots!
    BTW, my ENT lives in my town and I keep in touch with him via email. He was the one who found my cancer. The anniversary of that day is Sept. 3rd and I will be sending him an awesome thank you card!!!

    That's weird. our oncology
    That's weird. our oncology team spent an hour speaking on what the plan was and gave us two options. We spent Hours speaking with oncology, radiology and even an hour with a surgeons once over. All knowledge is good knowledge. One of the residence kept wondering why I understood the saline fluid IV. Go Stanford. They even got my wife in early for chemo. Why wait a week when you can get someone in the next day? I'll never understand nurses vs doctors. The doctor saw the urgency but the nurse pulled the "oh we have to room" BS.

    I will say this thou, time to switch doctors.
