Hi all-Today ..August 14th is 3 years since I finished my last treatment.I am so grateful and wish the same to all of my CSN friends.Hugs..alyse
today i will be seeing my Reg doctor and will get the orders put in for ct scan and staging and the EUS tests to be done and also she will tell me who my cancer doctor will be to make an appt with him/her wow this is so new to me LOL but i feel i will go though it with a smile my sister passed away 5 years ago from stage 4 colon cancer i'm so happy to hear that you are now 3 years without cancer keep up with the news i love to hear how people are doing it keeps me going let you all know how it went today.
Just to let you know you belong here and are welcome whether you are smiling or not. I've done a lot of being very far from a smile and everyone prayed for me and/or passed on helpful hints for helping me get through. I am so sorry about your sister. You are both in my heart and prayers. But you will get through this just fine. You are a long way from colon cancer even though it seems close by. The time you are in is very difficult. Please stay close to us. Everyone here will do what we can to help you. The good news is this cancer is very very treatable and it sounds like you are being lined up with doctors who can help you. Don't be afraid to get more than one opinion. The first doctor told me there was no way I could avoid surgery and suggested it as the first option for treatment. I just finished my 30th radiation treatment. We'll know in six weeks if I need surgery, but the chances are minimal. Take care.
Congratulations on 3 yrs out... I know what a relief this is on your mind... this is wonderful. I'm 11 years out !! positive thoughts and prayers coming your way.
3 years--that's awesome. I hope you are planning to celebrate this important milestone. I will be 3 years NED on September 9th., so we are almost "cancer twins." I am counting down the days. I wish you continued good health and may you have many, many more happy anniversaries with NED!
I am proud to have you as my cancer twin...We both know what it took to get to this point. Its nice to be able to reassure others that they will be "ok".I have a friend who is 7 years out..I look to her for assurance of my future. So lets celebrate and make a toast to all of us! Hugs..alyse
I'm glad you have another friend who is 7 years out--that is so encouraging! I have met so many wonderful people because I had cancer--one of the few benefits--but it's huge!
This is great news, and this news gives everyone hope. I wish you well Lori.
Hi Lori...this is exactly why I posted it....Hugs..alyse
I am so happy for you and cannot wait till I can post the same!
PS What does NED mean? Do you feel 100% normal now? (I'm only 3 weeks out)
No Evidence of Disease--what we all want to hear on our scans and follow-ups!
Thank you MP - I should have figured that out!!
Hi Mary-NED means no evidence of disease...
congratulations to you too for completing your treatment.I don"t feel 100% normal..i have a "new normal". There are residual side effects... but certainly tolerable. Most important ..I am here and have a very good prognosis. Positive thoughts your way.... Hugs..Alyse
I'm also almost 3 years out - Oct 31st will be 3 years since treatment ended.
Nice to know I can share this anniversary with someone - especially YOU! Finished mine up today with one last "kick ass" radiation treatment. After suffering this weekend from his last one I could not believe I marched in there today. I attribute it to Sloan's great staff and my husband who drove me. I never even think about driving any more.
Wow!!! you are done! Smooth sailing ahead...I remember so well the day i finished my last treatment. Its amazing that 3 years have gone by.I am equally thrilled to share my anniversary with you.I hope you have an easy recovery.Hugs..alyse
That is wonderful news for all of us and gives us hope. I am now 7 months NED... thank you! Wishing you all the best!
Oh, Sandy. I know how you feel. I didn't drive either. You will start healing now!!! My mouth got so dry and so metallic at this point. Biotene is available at Walgreens/CVS to help with dry mouth, and sugar-free hard candy helps too. Soaking in the tub is good. You really will be better very soon!!! We are here for you!
I,M 57 I got done with my treatments in jan 2011 .I had stage 2 to 3 Anal cancer. They wasnt for sure if it was gone .So i had a pet scan, then 3 biopsys , And then a MRI ,about 2 weeks ago my radiation Dr said every thing looks good . Now i dont have to worry so much .I;m feeling a lot better. And the frist time in 1 1/2 years i dont have pain . unless i,m having a bad day .
So sorry you have a reason to be here, but I'm glad you are doing well. I'm glad you got a good report from your doctor and all is well and you are pain free. There's good support here should you need it. I wish you all the best.
Hi - Welcome to the group. So glad things are looking good!
sorry you have to be here but glad you are feeling better. it will get better. so grateful. sephie
Hello, Welcome, and it sounds like they have tested you enough to know its gone. Let the healing continue without all the biopsys. I have never had an mri, but I believe because its soft tissue, that makes it clearer to look for any problems. You have good drs to make sure everything is clear. I wish you well Lori.
Alyse, Sandy . . .what a wonderful day! Thanks for sharing such beautiful news!
Love to all.
Congratulations on your 3 year NED results! I'm approaching 2 years, tests at MDA on Monday and Tuesday and I'm both excited and anxious.
I'm also very sad right now. We lost our 16 year old Jack Russell Terrier on Tuesday. It was all very sudden, he was healthy, active and playful until that day. Then he had a seizure. My heart hurt so much and I've been crying since Tuesday. Sorry to unload here about that, I know there are bigger issues in life. I just hurt so bad right now.
thanks for listening and NED wishes to one and all.
Hi Liz, I'm sorry for the loss of your dog, 16 years is a long life for a dog, and he probably loved you dearly, as you love him. He must have had a great life.
I have you in my thoughts and prayers for your tests, and I bet they'll be good results.
I wish you well. Lori
I'm so very sorry to hear of the loss of your dog. It is so hard to lose such a faithful companion and I am sorry you are hurting right now. Please know that I am thinking of you.
I also want to wish you excellent results on all of your testing next week. May you get all great news.
Hugs to you--
Aw, I'm so sorry about your dog. We love our little friends so much. My deepest sympathies.
Liz - I am so sorry about you losing your dog and yes it is very painful. I wish you did not have to go through this. I am such a dog lover and when I have lost my fury kids it broke my heart. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sad about your Jack Russell Terrier. At 16 it sounds like he lived a long full life and it's so good to hear he was active and playful until that day. But how awful for you. We lost a 14.5 year old English Springer in January and my husband and I were a mess over it. Sir Albert had not had a good day in years. We realized way too late that he had cancer that probably started in his lung and went to his bones. But we finally had to put him down while he was actively dying as it was more humane once we could not control his pain. But my feeling is if you are a dog person you have to get back out there and find your new dog. We got an English Cocker ( a little smaller dog as we have to remember we are getting older and remember how much energy they take). Also our new dog, Luke was 5 months old when we bought him from the breeder and already housebroken and trained in all the basic comands. Oh so much laughter replaced those tears immediately. Good luck to you and God Bless!
hi liz- i'm so sorry about your pup.I had to put my 13 year old wheaton down almost 2 yrs ago.I was so sad too.I now have a very cute pup named riley..he is in the picture with me.Hes my little buddy and follows me everywhere. When you are ready..you may consider getting a puppy..Hope you feel better liz...Hugs alyse
Alyse...so gratefull to hear your good news. I have my first scan on October 7th.
I forgot to thank you for sharing your third anniversary with us and congratulate you. You look like the type of person who is making good use of your re-gift of life and I am sure that many besides us are benefiting by your presence.

On the good news side...I just returned from MDA and I reached my 2 year NED mark! So for that I am so incredibly grateful.
