Being deported on Friday
I can't wait! While I loved my power port for treatment that part of my life ended at Thanksgiving. With my weight loss etc. the thing has become a real pain. My seatbelt rubs it. The kittens bump it. The support pads on the machines at Curves push on it. And it pulls sometimes. I really know it's there! All the docs agree that it's time to be deported and my surgeon was able to squeeze it in Friday before he goes on vacation. I'm jsut doing it there with a local so there's no major recovery time and he's putting in stitches that will dissolve so there's no major follow-up. Another milestone reached! And another celebration.

It was easy, painless (just felt a little tugging) and felt so good afterward. Don't be surprised if you have a little bruising for a few days.

Congrats!
Congrats on having the port removed! Celebrate! My port was put in about a month ago and I have to agree - it's very annoying. I know exactly what you mean about the seat belt and the pulling. Somtimes it's hard to move certain ways due to it hitting the bone next to it. Can't wait until I hit the same milestone you have!

I don't remember when my port was removed, as I was out cold in the middle of my bi-lateral mastectomy. I was one of the lucky ones that had chemo first before surgery. So they removed mine during that time, saved me one less surgical procedure down the road. Congrats on the freedom, life is definitely getting back to normal for you.

I had chemo first and tried to get them to remove the port during surgery but it was a no go. Onc said okay but surgeon wanted to wait until at least 6 months out from the end of chemo. He won. Not only is it the end of the discomfort (it was fine for a while but started bothering me in late spring) it's the end of the need for monthly port flushes and all that jazz. (Had to deal with TPA twice so am really glad to put an end to this.)0 -

Congrats! I hated it when the nurse said to me " I AM GOING TO ACCESS YOU"!!!
It sent shivers up my spine and the hair on the back of my neck stood in terror.
It still does just by the mere mention of this phrase, so imagine my joy when they
took out that device ((((((((;

Congrats!
I'll be deported in October after the last 4 Herceptin treatments. My surgeon said it'll be done in his office, as well. Numbed up with Lydocaine and he will open the same incision he made to put it in. He keeps telling me it'll only take 15 minutes.
