He's winding down now

We are talking now about hospital beds and commodes and what our final wishes are. He now doesn't want to see anyone or even talk on the phone. From what I've read on the Hospice website some kind person posted here a few weeks ago, this is all to be expected, this social withdrawal.
I am hoping, with the help of Hospice, to keep him home and comfortable. Now he's developed thrush due to his low immune system (steroids daily for breathing). Call is in to the nurse and so we will treat symptoms as they come up.
It's just so hard to watch this beautiful man, who could do anything, fix anything, dream of such adventures and be so full of life, wind down and knowing that he's on his final weeks and days.
How lucky I have been to have had such a fantastic man in my life. How sad it is that he's leaving us so early.
Life really isn't fair. And yet it is what it is and so we deal with it as best we can.
Peace to all,
Jo-Ann

I just wrote you a private e-mail and then read this. I am so very sorry . Vince was the same way. Strong, full of life, wanting to do so many things and was a wonderful man.

You and Steve both have my heart.
    Damn this cancer to hell

    So Sorry
Very sorry for you both. I hope these days are peaceful for you both. We are walking down the same road with you. My Steve continues to decline. We are just enjoying each other and our kids and taking one day at a time.

    Take care

    Peace
Indeed, we are finding peace with this decision. Tomorrow, we are scheduled to have the ambulance transport us to Hospice House. I have a blog which explains our decision.
We find great comfort in this resource (hospice) which we have just begun to tap.
Thank you for all your kind wishes. It's a great thing to be able to share with such supportive people.
    Peace to all,

He's doing well in Hospice House
He is doing well, relaxing and working on his computer and seems to be enjoying himself well enough! I think he is greatly relieved to be with folks who are caring for him 24/7. (Not that I wasn't, but he really felt he wanted a professional nursing staff on his side).
His mind is sharp, his humor good, but I do see how tired and tough it is on his body. I told him anytime he wants to come home, we can make it happen.
He seems pretty peaceful so far there, and so I guess he knew his body best and what he needed.
While you never want to use it, Hospice is a great resource to have.
I'll update periodically as time permits.
He's fast becoming a staff favorite, and I know why! :)
