Hello,
I am a colon cancer survivor Advanced Stage 3. This is my first discussion I have posted. I just finished 6 months of Folfox and had two CT Scans NED. I shared with my Oncologist that I have a cousin currently doing chemo for Ovarian Cancer, and one cousin doing chemo for breast cancer and lost an Aunt to Ovarian Cancer. I have had an enlarged ovary for the past six months, found when scanning for Colon Cancer Staging and Followup. No change in size in the six months but too large for a women my age (60). He stated the Radiologists think it is a cyst but we need to do an ultrasound next week to make sure.

1. Praying for a good Ultrasound - Hoping for the Best - Cyst
2. Need an opinion: If it is a cyst would those who have the experience here have the cyst or ovary removed? What is the treatment?
3. No symptoms for Colon Cancer so unsure if twinges in lower back due to chemo induced issues or just those issues with morning stiffness in the muscles and joints.

Praying for a good ultrasound - Prayer has gotten me this far in my journey.

    There is a condition called
There is a condition called Lynch Syndrome you need to rule out (colon, breast & ovarian cancer). I hope you just have a cyst & will pray for you.

I think your doctor could give you a better idea as to whether it is prudent to have the ovary removed. If it is something very beneign, it may not be worth putting your body through the stress of a surgery. If they go in for any other reason, however, I'd say get rid of it, cyst or not.

Based on your family history, you may want to ask your doctor if he would recommend testing for the BRCA gene. The BRCA-1 mutation predisposes its owner to breast and ovarian cancer. The BRCA-2 mutation predisposes its owner to breast, ovarian, colon, and other cancers. With regard to ovarian cancer, BRCA positive women tend to respond to treatment better than those patients without the mutation. If you are positive for the mutation, then you may want to have your ovaries removed as a preventative measure.

Hoping your cyst is gone when they check it with the ultrasound.

My cousin with Breast Cancer was tested and was negative for BrcA-1 and Brca-2 but she lost her mother to Ovarian Cancer. She did test positive for three other genetic markers so she is on chemo pills for 1 year and another pill for five years.

Thank you for your information. Your comments and suggestions are helpful when I meet with the oncologist.
    Thank you,
