My husband keeps getting thrush. When he gets Thrush it seems like it takes 2-3 prescripts to knock it out. How often have you been affected with Thrush?

    Thrush
Me too. I got thrush three times during treatment. It took two bottles of med each time. I also have Type II Diabetes, not sure if that has anything to do with it. Our body is definitely under stress.

    I hated that stuff
I think I had bouts with thrush twice. The first time, it was beat pretty quickly. The 2nd time was much worse and seemed to hang around for at least 3 weeks. Being that all I was taking was a canned drink called Two-Cal, and Boost Plus down the ole peg tube for 10 months, it's a wonder that I didn't get that awful junk more often. Gotta give many thanks to my wife and Dr. Anna Pou for working so hard to keep the effects of my treatment down to a minimum.

At least 3 or 4 times
That was during the last weeks of treatment and a couple of times when treatment was completed. It just takes time for your immune system to build back up where it can fight it. I had such a case of hairy tongue with it, it took awhile before the color came back from gray to pink.

Continue the healing, your on the way to full recovery.

    Best wishes,

    Just twice
For Doug, the first was after his tonsilectomy, and it was caused by the antibiotics. The ENT wanted to stick with just the topical stuff (swish and swallow Nystatin). The second infection was nasty - during radiation and causing fissures in his mouth and throat. The radiation docs put him right on the pills (Diflucan) plus the Nystatin.

We had both taken Diflucan before - it was the only thing that cured my chronic yeast infections. Consider asking the doctor if it might help for you to take it as well - bad side effects are rare. I did a few courses of it for the yeast infections before it occurred to me that Doug and I should take it at the same time - it seems that he kept re-infecting me.

I still had some around and so took it when he did, and also did the peroxide rinse (mouth) for a few weeks to try to make sure I wasn't reinfecting him. I don't know if this kept him from getting further infections or not, but it seemed worth the effort.

    My father is halfway through
My father is halfway through his radiation and chemo treatments and he is just now getting over thrush as well. Not sure as to why people having treatmenst keep getting it, but his was soo severe, he couldnt swallow anything. We all just assumed it was from the treatments, but it started in on week one of the radiation. Now that is almost gone, he is eating pretty good, and he had a PEG tube put in just in case he gets to the point that he cannot swallow. Lord I hope he don't get it again.

Hope you and your husband well

    trush ..
my mom started to develop thrush in the mouth.. it was BAD ( according to doctor) .. but she gave my mom clotrimazole (sp?) trouche aka lozenge.. it dissolved in her mouth. it was an anti-fungal. she took it twice a day i think.. and in 2 days those white patches started to significantly improve!! and it was less painful!

we wondered why she didnt get this when she had trush with her tonsillectomy...

    best of luck, stay strong
