Vaccine to attack OVC

A very close friend of mine just finished her second round of chemo. We are always comparing notes with each other. Her doctor wants to get her into a clinical trial when it comes to UCSF in a few months. Dr Geo Coukos, PHD at University of Penn is the doctor in charge. I just finished e-mailing my oncologist too. When my second round of chemo is finished, I too am interested in this new vaccine.

I sure hope this note helps. I am all for keeping in touch and finding out as much about my cancer as I possibly can.

    Rosemarie....there are two
    Rosemarie....there are two of us here who are participating in a vaccine trial at MSKCC in NYC.

    I got my first injection in Feb and so far, so good. I had a CT scan yesterday and it was "perfect", according to my doctor. And my CA125 is 9.

    Hi Carlene, that is good to know. I am not on this site very much so I miss a great deal. First I want to thank you for the suggestion of that numbing cream.

    I am wondering if the vaccine from Univ of Penn is the same as the one from MSKCC??
    I have done a lot of reading on Dr George Coukos and he sounds brilliant.

    Good luck to you and I pray you ca125 stays at 9 or even lower.

    It's not the same trial,
    It's not the same trial, Rosemarie. The one at MSKCC is not being done anywhere else. Thus, I have to fly into NYC from Dallas/Ft Worth every 3 months now, but for a time, I had to go much more often (every week for the first 3 weeks).

    There are lots of vaccine trials. I encourage everyone to look for all trials that they might benefit from. Every single drug and treatment in use today started out as a phase I clinical trial.

    Do you have a preference as
    Do you have a preference as to trial 1 11 or later? I feel so dumb about all this medical stuff and sometimes the more I read the more confused I become. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

    A phase III trial, if you can find one, would be the best, by far. Unfortunately, the one I am in is just Phase I.

    Vaccine trial
    I just found out yesterday that I have been accepted into the vaccine trial starting at Cleveland Clinic. Dr Rose is the Principle Investigator. I think the number is CAN-003. It is listed on the ACS trial board. It is just starting and I will be the first one to get the vaccine in Cleveland. I believe it will be open at other places in the US and Austrailia. It is a Phase II.

    Lulu....is it the NCT01068509 trial? Will you stay in the trial if you are assigned to the control arm? I haven't yet figured out what the benefit would be, if you weren't getting the actual vaccine.

    Vaccine Trial
    Yes it is one and the same. Dr. Rose is the principle investigator of the project at Cleveland Clinic. There is a different principle investigator at each location it is offered. It is being offered in different places in the U.S. and Austrailia. The sponsor for the trial is Prima BioMed, Ltd..
    I live close to Cleveland so I would have stayed in the trial even if assigned to the control group and would hope for a little closer monitoring than standard care. I am not sure what monitoring the control group gets.
    I have been assigned to get the vaccine so I am excited and hopeful. I do agree it seems it would be hard to find women to stick with the control group. We can only hope that there are enough women who believe in the possibilities of the project and offer to help.
